Job summary

Boreal Veterinary Centre in Edmonton, AB, invites three Emergency Registered Veterinary Technologists (RVTs) to join our growing Emergency Department. You will support critical patients alongside veterinarians, contribute medical expertise at rounds, and mentor junior team members.

This role follows a rotating 10-hour shift schedule across days, evenings, overnights, weekends and holidays, with opportunities for professional development and advancement within a supportive hospital.

Qualifications

• Active member of ABVMA and ABVTA
• Ability to lift 50 lbs (22 kg)
• Desire to grow the RVT profession
• Confidence with patient monitoring, venipuncture and IV catheter placement
• Proficiency with monitoring equipment (pulse oximetry, ECG, capnography)

Responsibilities

• Conduct physical examinations and patient assessments
• Calculate, draw, and administer medications
• Supervise and support Animal Care Assistants
• Communicate with clients via phone, email, and in person
• Generate estimates and review informed consent with clients
• Administer, monitor, and recover patients from anesthesia
• Perform procedures as prescribed by the veterinarian
• Perform venipuncture and catheter placements
• Use in-house laboratory equipment and submission reference tests
• Obtain quality images with X-ray, CT or ultrasound
• Perform advanced diagnostic tests including scopes
• Fill prescriptions, relay orders for compounded meds
• Admit and set up patients for hospitalization and transfer to ICU
• Manage hospitalized patients and recovery care
• Assist DVMs with appointments
• Perform tech appointments
• Double check aftercare for the Animal Care Attendants
• Assist with maintenance and quality control of equipment
• Mentor and support other team members
• Contribute suggestions to improve hospital flow and patient care
• Maintain detailed and accurate medical records
• Other tasks as deemed necessary

Position Title: Emergency Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT)
Reports to: Emergency RVT Team Lead
Department: Emergency
Status: Full-Time Permanent (40 hours per week)

About the Opportunity

As Boreal Veterinary Centre's Emergency Department continues to grow, we are seeking three (3) Registered Veterinary Technologists (RVTs) to join our team. These positions will support our expanding caseload and help us continue delivering exceptional patient care, outstanding client service, and collaborative veterinary medicine in a fast-paced emergency environment.

This position follows a rotating schedule consisting of 10-hour shifts, including days, afternoons, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.

This role is a partnership and collaboration with veterinarians to provide gold standard medical care to our critical patients.
