Position: Protective Services & Emergency Management Coordinator

Status: Full-Time Regular

Department: Human Resources & Corporate Services

Employee Group: GVRD

Location: 4515 Central Boulevard, Burnaby

Salary: $48.84 hourly plus 6.25% deferred compensation

This role receives an additional 6.25% deferred compensation, which can be taken as compensation or time off. The Corporate Services Department seeks a Protective Services & Emergency Management Coordinator reporting to the Division Manager. Responsibilities include developing emergency management programs, delivering training and exercises, and ensuring an integrated emergency response capability for Metro Vancouver.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engage with departments to develop and implement emergency management programs based on risk and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant policies, acts, and regulations such as the Emergency & Disaster Management Act.
  • Develop and deliver emergency management and business continuity training and exercises.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on emergency management policies, standards, and trends.
  • Update emergency response procedures and liaise with external agencies to enhance preparedness.
  • Lead and document emergency debriefs, evaluate training, and support the Emergency Operations Centre during activations.
  • Lead campaigns like Emergency Preparedness Week and ShakeOut Earthquake Campaign.
  • Investigate security incidents and conduct risk assessments.
  • Manage emergency supplies and assist with budgeting.
  • Patrol facilities using various travel modes; act as Regional Duty Officer and enforce regulations as needed.
  • Participate in emergency responses and perform related duties.
Qualifications
  • Diploma or Certificate in Emergency Management with at least three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of emergency management, disaster reduction, legislation, and exercise design.
