Job summary

Tangent Design Engineering Inc. develops complex products where firmware, electronics and the physical world must work together. We seek an intermediate or senior Firmware Engineer who can own firmware features and turn difficult problems into practical solutions.

You should be curious and capable of learning to solve the next challenge. You will develop embedded firmware in C/C++ for prototype hardware, create Python/MATLAB scripts to support engineering tasks, and collaborate with hardware,

Qualifications

• 4+ years of software/firmware development in electrical, computer, electronics or software engineering.
• Experience developing C/C++ applications and debugging embedded systems.
• Experience working directly with hardware, reading schematics, testing designs and troubleshooting board-level issues.
• Familiarity with Windows and Linux environments and common embedded communication protocols.

Responsibilities

• Develop and debug embedded firmware in C and C++, including programming and troubleshooting prototype electronics hardware.
• Develop scripts using Python or MATLAB to support engineering work.
• Work with communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, Bluetooth, Modem CAN, Modbus.
• Support hardware bring-up, testing, measurement and troubleshooting; review schematics with electrical engineers.
• Assist in component selection for microcontrollers, sensors and communication technologies.
• Assist FPGA implementations using VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog where required.
• Participate in design and code reviews and document technical decisions.
• Maintain code using GitHub and create clear technical documentation and reports.
• Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, software and project teams to deliver firmware features.
