Job summary

Northland School Division invites applications for a Probationary Elementary Teacher at Gift Lake School, starting August 31, 2026. The school serves Kindergarten through Grade 11 and is located in the Gift Lake Métis Settlement in Northern Alberta.

The successful candidate must hold Alberta teaching certification and a BEd, with experience in rural/Indigenous communities and a commitment to Cree language/culture revitalization and collaborative decision making.

Qualifications

• Must hold or qualify for Alberta teaching certification and a Teaching Quality Standard certificate.
• Must hold a Bachelor of Education (BEd.) degree.
• Successful years of teaching experience in rural and/or Indigenous communities.

Responsibilities

• Following the prescribed program of studies for each subject taught.
• Plan and execute daily lessons based on short, medium and long range planning.
• Provide feedback to students and parents in a regular, timely manner.
• Champion Cree language/culture revitalization and curriculum infusion.
• Support school-parent-community engagement.
• Possess strong interpersonal skills and commit to collaborative-decision making.
• Promote differentiated instruction to meet diversity in learning needs.

Full Time - Elementary Teacher

Gift Lake School

Northland School Division is seeking Probationary Elementary Teachers at Gift Lake School. The start date of this position will be August 31st, 2026. The school serving Kindergarten through Grade 11 is located in the Gift Lake Métis Settlement, one of only eight legislated Métis land bases with Métis governments established in Northern Alberta, Canada, and protected by legislation.
