The Electronics Technologist is responsible for managing all aspects of electrical design for projects within the organization’s field. The Electrical Control Technologist provides solutions to technical problems and is responsible for job planning and quality production. This position is accountable for the processes of design, testing, and continuous development of electrical equipment, components, and systems as assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Troubleshoot and repair all the assembling equipment in a timely manner using sound knowledge and understanding of Ethernet communication, control logic, and programmable logic control (PLC Omron & Allen Bradley).
- Repair and maintain robotic devices and computer-controlled systems.
- Check meters and gauges to ensure that the machines work well.
- Troubleshoot assembling systems, investigate machine/system failures, and perform repairs using skills in pneumatics, manufacturing processes, electricity, electronics, and mechanical systems.
- Investigate machine/system failures and perform repairs in a timely manner based on knowledge in electronics, mechanics, and computers.
- Ensure safety standards are effective and followed at all times.
- Respond to emergency troubleshooting on mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic equipment to determine problems.
- Perform monthly EPV audits and make corrections where required.
- Maintain communication with different departments and peers.
- Provide technical assistance and support for projects, installations, and repairs.
- Conduct investigations; recommend changes and upgrades to equipment.
- Upgrade hardware and software for improved process control.
- Communicate findings, upgrades, and troubleshooting to colleagues and management via email, texts, and calls.
- Ensure calibration of machines and perform maintenance after calibration.
- Provide regular system operation training on automated systems.
- Assist in system specifications, installation, and modifications.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Community college diploma in engineering technology.
- Three to five years of experience in machine controls and PLC programming.
- Automation experience is required.
- Experience with CADKey and PLC programming.
- Proven experience with robotic troubleshooting and programming.
- Ability to design control circuits and generate electrical schematics.
- Understanding of engineering theories and principles.
- Strong presentation, oratory, and verbal skills.
- Ability to communicate ideas and recommendations clearly to non-engineer team members.
- Knowledge of Canadian electrical standards.
- Experience with pneumatic/hydraulic controls, sensors, electrical hardware, and control wiring circuitry.
- Knowledge of relevant operational codes for the geographical area.
- Strong problem identification and resolution skills.
- Ability to apply mathematical methods and formulas to problem-solving.
- Ability to create alternative solutions to problems.
