Job summary

QinetiQ Limited is seeking an Electronics Technician to manufacture, repair, overhaul, integrate, and test electronic assemblies for uncrewed vehicles. You will diagnose electronics, assemble to drawings, and perform acceptance testing while maintaining documentation and training teammates.

Candidates should have electronics education, hands-on test equipment experience, and the ability to work independently or in teams as schedules demand.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair electronics, assemble to drawings and specs.
• Manufacture and assemble electro-mechanical assemblies including PCB work.
• Perform functional, acceptance, and verification testing.
• Support integration and system assembly for uncrewed vehicles.
• Create maintenance records, ATPs, and service logs.
• Inspect builds and ensure compliance with specs and safety rules.
• Assist engineering with test docs, memos, and drawings review.
• Provide technical guidance and training to teammates.
• Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
• Contribute to continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.

About the Role

The Electronics Technician is responsible for the manufacture, repair, overhaul, integration, and acceptance testing of electronic assemblies and sub-assemblies used in uncrewed vehicles and associated support equipment.

What You’ll Do

• Diagnosing and repairing electronics, manufacturing assemblies following build instructions and drawings, and installing new equipment, performing routine servicing and inspections, assisting with training, and electronic upgrades.
• Manufacture and assemble electronic and electro-mechanical assemblies, including soldering, crimping, wiring, harness assembly, and PCB integration.
• Perform functional testing, acceptance testing, and verification of electronic systems and sub-assemblies to ensure compliance with performance and quality requirements.
• Support the final integration and system-level assembly of electronic subsystems within uncrewed vehicle platforms.
• Create and maintain technical documentation including maintenance records, test results, service logs, and Acceptance Test Procedures (ATPs) in accordance with company standards.
• Conduct inspections of new builds, repairs, and installations to ensure compliance with engineering specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Support Engineering with the creation of acceptance test documentation, engineering memorandums and review of draft drawings and documentation.
• Provide technical guidance and support to team members and assist in training on the use, maintenance, and repair of electronic equipment.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to manufacturing, testing, quality, and repair processes.
• Ensure all work is performed in compliance with company values, ISO standards, safety regulations, and internal policies.

This role may be adjusted over time to reflect evolving business priorities and may include additional responsibilities as required.

Skill Requirements:

• Ability to read, interpret, and work from technical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering documentation.
• Strong understanding of electronic principles, components, and circuit behavior.
• Experience with electronic manufacturing and assembly processes, including soldering, crimping, wiring, harness assembly, PCBs, and connectors.
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills with the ability to resolve hardware and system-level electronic faults.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience using hand tools and performing mechanical and electro-mechanical assembly tasks.
• Proficiency with computer systems, including document management software and Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as contribute effectively within a team environment.
• Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities, and meet tight production and delivery schedules.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

What You Bring

• Diploma in Electronics Technician/Technologist program, military electronics training, journeyman certification, degree program, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Hands-on experience using electronic test equipment and tools (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators)..
• Proven experience as an Electronics Technician or in a similar role.
• Degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is a plus.
• Familiarity with IPC standards (e.g., IPC-A-610 or IPC/WHMA-A-620) considered an asset.
• An understanding of ESD and associated control measures
• Relevant certifications in electronics or a related field are a plus.

Basic familiarity with Linux operating systems in a test or operational environment (preferred).

Work Experience:

• 6-11 years working in a technical product environment
• 4-7 years in complex systems or project engineering
• Experience in uncrewed systems, avionics, marine, vehicular military systems, and/or design of communication equipment.
• Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada and meet the eligibility requirements to obtain and maintain the Government of Canada security clearance required for the position
• Must be eligible for and maintain a clear background check, including criminal record screening, as required for security clearance
