Sciemetric seeks an Electronics Engineer (Level II/III) to own end-to-end hardware and firmware development for industrial products. You will design, prototype, test, and support production across international markets from our Ottawa facility.

The role emphasizes PCB layout, firmware work, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure manufacturability and reliability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical or Electronics Engineering; P.Eng designation or EIT eligibility is desirable.
  • 1–7 years of hands-on electronics product design experience with hardware reaching production.
  • Strong proficiency with PCB design suites and circuit simulation tools.
  • Desirable experience with PLCs and data acquisition solutions.
  • Understanding of design for manufacture, signal integrity, power distribution, thermal management, and EMC/EMI.
  • Proficient lab skills to diagnose hardware using test equipment; able to perform root-cause analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Translate specifications into electronic designs, select components, capture schematics, and layout multi-layer PCBs.
  • Build, bring up, and debug prototype hardware; design testing protocols and fixtures.
  • Develop firmware using microcontrollers and FPGA for control and interface to front-end hardware.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and contractors on firmware, embedded software, mechanical, thermal, EMC, and documentation.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and contract manufacturers; prepare manufacturing packages and address production issues.
  • Support sustaining engineering with root-cause analysis of field failures and obsolescence handling.

A Great Opportunity in OurResearch & Development Team!

We are seeking anElectronics Engineer (Level II or III) to execute the end-to-end developmentand maintenanceof industrial electronics products designed for a 10-year service life. Operating withinateam of 2–5engineers, you will work closely with and report directly to our Senior Electronics Systems Engineer. This is a full-time, in-person role based out of our Ottawa region facility.

In this position, you will help transform engineering specifications into reliable, factory-ready hardwarefor international markets. This hands-on role is ideal for an engineer eager to own day-to-day circuit design, PCB layout,prototyping, benchmarking, andfirmware development.

Key Responsibilities

Design Execution:Translate engineering specifications into electronic designs, executingcomponentselection, schematic capture, and multi-layer PCB layout.

Prototyping & Testing:Build, bring up, and debug prototypehardware. Design and assemble testing protocols and automated test fixtures tovalidateproduct quality.

Firmware Development:Leverage microcontrollers and FPGA to implement control and communication interfaces to front-end hardware

Cross-Functional Collaboration:Collaboratewith colleaguesor external contractorson firmware development, embedded software, mechanical design, thermal management, EMC compliance, and documentation.

Manufacturing Support:Assistin coordinating with external suppliers and contract manufacturers, preparing manufacturing packages, and resolving production-line technical issues.

Sustaining Engineering:Support operational continuity for hardware deployed worldwide by performing root-cause analysis on field failures, testing design updates, and addressingcomponentobsolescence.

Qualifications:
  • Education:B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.P.Engdesignation or eligibility/registration as an EIT withProfessional Engineers Ontario (PEO)is desirable.
  • Experience:1to 7 years of hands-on experience in electronics product design, witha track recordof contributing to hardware products that reached commercial production. Technical
  • Skills:Strongproficiencywith PCB design suites (e.g., Altium Designer) and circuit simulation tools.
  • Industrial Automation & DAQ:Desirable experience working withPLCsand data acquisitionsolutions.
  • Hardware Fundamentals:Understanding of design principles, includingdesign for manufacture,signal integrity, power distribution, thermal mitigation, and EMC/EMI.
  • Lab & Troubleshooting:Ability to use standard lab equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, digital multimeters) to debug hardware and perform root-cause analysis.
  • Location:Mustbe located inor willing to commute daily to ourOttawa region location.
Salary Range

$85,000 to $125,000
