Job summary

BCIT’s Campus Planning and Facilities department is seeking one regular, full‑time Electrician to maintain and install electrical systems across campus, including fire alarms, communications, emergency lighting, and instructional equipment.

The role emphasizes safety, problem solving, and collaboration with internal teams and contractors. A valid journeyman ticket and strong communication are required, with hybrid work options and access to BCIT courses.

Qualifications

• Valid trades qualification or interprovincial journeyman ticket plus relevant technical education/certifications.
• 2 years general trades experience plus up to 4 years current relevant experience.
• Ability to assess blueprints and make recommendations for trade requirements is an asset.
• Must be able to work independently.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to maintain currency in the field and learn on the job.
• Basic computer training and experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Respond to trouble calls and troubleshoot problems across various electrical systems.
• Establish priorities for Preventative Maintenance (PM) and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Conduct preventive maintenance on interconnected systems per PM plan.
• Estimate labor and material needs for renovations and projects and review drawings.
• Coordinate with BCIT staff and external contractors to ensure quality and safety.
