Job summary

Saint Mary’s University in Halifax is seeking a casual Electrician to join the Facilities Management team. Under supervision, the Electrician will perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot and repair electrical, security clock, and fire alarm systems.

You'll collaborate with external agencies, assist other maintenance staff, and develop knowledge of schematics and control logic. Continuous training will keep you up to date with new electrical and fire alarm technologies.

Qualifications

  • Certified Electrical Tradesperson with two years related experience.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a positive manner.
  • Ability to interact with customers in a positive working relationship.
  • Ability to work alone and complete tasks with minimal supervision.

We are currently looking to fill the position of Electrician on a casual basis to join our Facilities Management team.

Job Information and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Manager, Maintenance and Operations, the Electrician will:

  • Establishes and performs preventative maintenance routines, and performs trouble-shooting and repair to electrical, security clock, and fire alarm systems.
  • Works closely with any outside agency that is required to perform work on the above noted systems. Uses any such collaboration to enhance knowledge and trouble-shooting expertise.

Experience and Education Requirements

To be the successful Electrician you will have:

  • Certified Electrical Tradesperson with two (2) years related experience in construction or maintenance.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to perform all duties in a safe manner, following health and safety legislation and all required safe work practices and procedures, in order to minimize the risk of injury and property damage.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a positive manner conveying and responding to information.
  • Ability to interact with customers in a positive working relationship.
  • Ability to work alone and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to take initiative in completing tasks with minimal instruction.
  • Technical certification or trades school certificate.
