Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in Ajax, Ontario is hiring an Industrial Electrician Apprentice to join the maintenance team. The role supports licensed electricians while learning to install, test, troubleshoot and repair industrial electrical systems in a manufacturing setting.

You will work under supervision as you progress through the apprenticeship program, with shifts designed to meet 24/7 production needs and a competitive wage plus pension and benefits.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an Industrial Electrician course and pursuing Certification as Industrial Journeyman Electrician 442A.
• Strong PLC and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to apply safety codes and follow Canadian Electric Code.

The Ajax facility is currently recruiting for an Industrial Electrician Apprentice to join our maintenance team. The Electrical Apprentice’s primary function is to assist licensed electricians while learning to install, maintain, test, troubleshoot, and repair industrial electrical equipment and associated electrical and electronic controls based on technical drawings, schematics, government regulations, and other documented specifications in a manufacturing environment.

All electrical work is performed under the supervision of licensed electricians while the employee progresses through the electrical apprenticeship program.

Job Duties:

• Ensure that safety codes and the Canadian Electric Code are followed
• Under the direction of the Electrician, assess problems and make changes to existing electrical systems in order to improve performance
• Detect and troubleshoot irregularities and malfunctions in a fast paced, high pressure environment
• Repair or replace defective machinery parts
• Possess good communication skills, both verbally and written
• Must be able to take direction and perform duties in a demanding, fast-paced production environment, adjusting to changing priorities & roles as required
• Must be willing to work in a team environment
• Ability balancing a variable workload
• Flexibility to work weekends to meet business needs.
• Daily use of electrical and mechanical skills to support 24hr / day production equipment.

What you need to work at WestRock:

• Enrolled in Industrial Electrician course and pursuing Certification as Industrial Journeyman Electrician License 442A
• Analytical and troubleshooting skills - PLC’s / relevant software knowledge

• Able to work 12 hour continental shifts
