Job summary

University of Victoria seeks a skilled electrician to perform tradesperson-level electrical work on building maintenance and installation tasks. You will troubleshoot failures, complete timekeeping, and ensure safe, compliant operations under supervision while coordinating with faculty, staff and external partners.

Ideal candidates have BC Red Seal certification, a minimum of four years’ experience, and a strong safety mindset.

Qualifications

• Four years' experience as a journeyperson electrician.
• Fire alarm and electrical metering monitoring systems knowledge.
• Experience planning, organizing and monitoring daily work activities.

Responsibilities

• Perform tradesperson level skilled electrical work on maintenance or installation tasks as assigned.
• Complete timekeeping and recordkeeping for tasks.
• Maintain safe working conditions and troubleshoot electrical failures.
• Prepare for project work and use standard trade tools and equipment.
• Operate light vehicle if required and coordinate with faculty, staff and partners.

Job description

Performs tradesperson level skilled work on building electrical maintenance and or new installation work as assigned by supervisor Completes time keeping and recording keeping work associated with the assigned tasks. Maintains safe working conditions. Troubleshoots operating problems and electrical failures related to building electrical systems. Prepares for project work in the assigned areas of responsibility. Use typical tools machinery, and equipment related to the trade. Operates a light truck, Gators, or other similar vehicles.

Specialized Knowledge/Education

• Grade 12 (or equivalency)


• BC or interprovincial Red Seal electrical trades qualification.


• Safety training and knowledge of applicable codes and standards, and Work Safe BC regulations.


• Valid BC Class 5 driver's license.

Experience

• Minimum of four years' experience in the electrical trade as a journeyperson.


• Tradesman level competence with fire alarm, and electrical metering monitoring systems.


• Planning, organizing and monitoring day-to-day work activities and standards in a shop and/or plant environment.


• Familiarity with use of a computerized maintenance management work order system.
