Job summary

Mecsmart Systems Inc. in Newmarket, Ontario, is seeking a licensed Electrician to lead, build, and wire electrical control panels and automated systems from concept to reality.

You will work on robotic cells, assembly lines, and material handling projects, coordinating with our Electrical Design team to meet project requirements. The role balances hands-on electrical work with technical problem-solving and collaboration across disciplines to deliver reliable automation solutions for

Qualifications

  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, manuals, and specifications.
  • Build custom automation systems per project schedules.
  • Maintain and update as-built drawings throughout project execution.
  • Wire electrical control systems and panels per codes and standards.
  • Verify systems and perform startup activities including power-ups, testing, and adjustments.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Electrical Designers and Project Developers to review machine concepts and designs.
  • Research and evaluate products and technologies for project requirements.
  • Manage work to support project schedules, budgets, and material needs.
  • Occasional travel as required globally.

Job Opportunity:

We are seeking a full-time Licenced Electrician to lead, build, and wire electrical control panels, sub-assemblies, and automated systems using engineering packages developed by our Electrical Design team.

This role offers a balance of hands‑on electrical work, technical problem‑solving, project leadership, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to bring custom automation equipment from concept to reality.

What you’ll do:
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, manuals, and specifications while ensuring compliance with applicable electrical codes
  • Build custom automation systems according to project schedules and engineering requirements
  • Maintain and update "as-built" drawings throughout project execution
  • Wire electrical control systems and panels in accordance with current electrical codes and standards
  • Complete system verification and startup activities, including:
    • Full system power-ups
    • Wiring and circuit troubleshooting
    • Motor rotation checks
    • Safety circuit testing
    • I/O testing
    • Switch adjustments
  • Collaborate with Electrical Designers and Project Developers to review machine concepts and designs
  • Research and evaluate products and technologies related to project requirements
  • Manage work effectively to support project schedules, budgets, and material requirements
  • Occasional travel as required globally
What you’ll need:
  • Licenced electrician (309A Construction and Maintenance Electrician preferred)
  • Minimum Diploma from 2-year Electrical Engineering Technician (Co-op) Program or 3-year Electrical Engineering Technology (Co-op) Program
  • Minimum 2 years' experience as a Licensed Electrician, with wiring and project lead experience
  • Working understanding of PLC function, wiring, motors, and drives, with basic mechanical and pneumatic fundamentals
  • Strong electrical and assembly knowledge of custom automation
  • Strong Knowledge of the Electrical Safety Code
  • Ability to lift weights reaching 50lbs, carry weights reaching 40lbs, and push and pull weights reaching 100-150lbs
