Job summary

Mecsmart Systems in Newmarket, Ontario is seeking a full-time Electrician (309A) to lead, build, and wire project electrical control panels and automated systems, following the engineering package and electrical codes.

The ideal candidate has a Red Seal 309A and a 2–3 year tech diploma, plus 2+ years as licensed electrician with PLC experience, and willingness to travel globally.

Qualifications

  • OCOT Red Seal 309A is required.
  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technician (Co-op) or Electrical Engineering Technology (Co-op) is required.
  • Minimum 2 years as Licensed Electrician with wiring and project lead experience.
  • Working understanding of PLCs, wiring, motors and drives; basic mechanical and pneumatic fundamentals.
  • Strong electrical/assembly knowledge of custom automation.
  • Strong knowledge of the Electrical Safety Code.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, carry 40 lbs, push/pull 100–150 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Read and understand electrical drawings, manuals and specs; build systems per electrical codes.
  • Mark drawings as built throughout the project.
  • Wire electrical systems and panels to current electrical code.
  • Perform system checks after wiring (power ups, troubleshooting, motor checks, safety I/O tests, switch adjustments).
  • Review machine concept and design with Electrical designer and project developer.
  • Research and develop applications for products involved in a project.
  • Understand scheduling and budget requirements; manage time and material use.
  • Occasional travel as required globally.

What you’ll do:
  • Read and understand electrical drawings, manuals and specifications, then, applying all pertinent electrical codes, proceed to build systems as scheduled
  • Mark drawings to "as built" throughout the project
  • Wire electrical system and Panels to current electrical code
  • Perform general system checks once wiring is complete, which include, but not limited to, Full System Power Ups, Troubleshooting wiring circuit, motor rotation checks, safety circuit testing, I/O testing, and switch adjustments
  • Review machine concept and design with Electrical designer and project developer
  • Research and develop application and use of products involved in a project.
  • Understand Mecsmart's scheduling and budget requirements, and apply personal management and organization skills to meet required time and material allowances
  • Occasional travel as required globally
What you’ll need:
  • Minimum OCOT Canadian Red Seal Certificate of Qualification 309A Construction and Maintenance Electrician
  • Minimum Diploma from 2-year Electrical Engineering Technician (Co-op) Program or 3-year Electrical Engineering Technology (Co-op) Program
  • Minimum 2 years' experience as a Licensed Electrician, with wiring and project lead experience
  • Working understanding of PLC function, wiring, motors, and drives, with basic mechanical and pneumatic fundamentals
  • Strong electrical and assembly knowledge of custom automation
  • Strong Knowledge of the Electrical Safety Code
  • Ability to lift weights reaching 50lbs, carry weights reaching 40lbs, and push and pull weights reaching 100-150lbs
