A leading healthcare provider is seeking a skilled Electrician to join their Facilities Maintenance and Engineering department. The role involves maintaining and repairing complex electrical systems at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital, ensuring compliance with codes and standards. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in high voltage systems and possess strong troubleshooting skills. This is a full-time position with a focus on reliability and critical thinking in a hospital environment.
This position reports to the Facility Manager at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital working in the Facilities Maintenance and Engineering department. The incumbent will perform a full range of journeyperson level duties associated with installing, maintaining, testing, and repairing building electrical systems, control systems, and equipment in accordance with blueprints, codes, and established Alberta Health Services' standards and practices. The incumbent must have strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose electrical system problems that need immediate response and repair for the campus. Interpreting diagrams, drawings, code publications, and standards are necessary skills. Must be able to manage record-keeping tasks and make appropriate recommendations for continual improvement of electrical infrastructure. A thorough understanding of complex electrical distribution systems is mandatory. This Electrician position will assist in managing complex electrical infrastructure upgrades and repairs as required. The primary location will be at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital, but the individual may be asked to work at other sites within the zone if needed. Multi-site duties may be assigned as directed by the FM&E Director or Manager.
As an Electrician, you will work in accordance with accepted codes, standards, regulations, and procedures. Under minimal supervision, you will perform a variety of highly skilled electrical maintenance and repairs of a complex nature, requiring the use of schematics, blueprints, and specialized test equipment.
Completion of an accredited Journeyperson Electrician Certificate with Red Seal from Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training. Must hold a valid Class 5 Alberta Operator's Licence.
Grade 12 Diploma. A minimum of 5 years of previous related electrical experience in high voltage (5kV & 13.8kV) distribution systems, complex switchgear operation and maintenance, familiarity with various electrical systems, and/or other institutional experience is required. Ability to troubleshoot and analyze electrical system and equipment problems. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be reliable, cooperative, and capable of working independently. Must be physically capable to carry out the duties of this position (e.g., walking for long periods, climbing ladders, lifting and moving heavy materials or equipment, and responding quickly to building emergencies). Critical thinking skills and the ability to diffuse and control problematic situations promptly are essential. Ability to work in a hospital environment and around traumatic events is required. Additional experience in large multi-building, multi-system public facilities is essential.
Healthcare experience is considered an asset. Electrical Engineering Technologist certification at the NAIT/SAIT level is an asset. Power System Electrician Certificate is considered an asset. Experience in switchgear maintenance and testing is also an asset.
