Job summary

Raise is recruiting on behalf of a leading client in Burnaby, BC for an Electrical / Security Design Engineer. This 1-year contract offers a pay rate of $90.00 per hour, with incorporation as the main pathway, and T4 options where applicable.

The role focuses on delivering electrical, P&C, and security designs and requires strong collaboration with project teams. Ideal candidates have eight or more years in electrical/P&C engineering, experience with security designs and ITPs, and familiarity

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
• Eight or more years of relevant electrical/P&C engineering experience.
• Experience delivering electrical, P&C, and security designs in utility or heavy industrial settings.
• Proficiency in equipment layout, wiring, schematics, sizing, and cable selection.
• Experience with security system designs and ITPs; on-site testing and commissioning.
• Familiarity with CAD systems and Notarius Notary/Seal software.
• Ability to mentor junior engineers; work with drafters, designers, and POR.
• Knowledge of BC Hydro engineering and drafting standards a plus.
• Intermediate English communication; MS Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint).
• Education and Certifications: Bachelor's in Electrical Eng; P.Eng and EGBC permit.

Electrical / Security Design Engineer

Raise is currently hiring an Electrical / Security Design Engineer on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada

Note: The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. However, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable.

Description

The Electrical / Security Design Engineer will support engineering, planning, and operations. In this role, you will apply your professional engineering expertise to deliver medium-complexity electrical, Protection & Control (P&C), and security design solutions safely, within budget, and on schedule.

Key Responsibilities & Scope

• Design & Engineering Delivery: Develop comprehensive electrical, P&C, and security designs including equipment layout, wiring and schematics, equipment sizing, and cable selection.
• Security Engineering Specifics: Execute security designs (equipment types, layouts, wiring, and schematics), design Inspection and Test Plans (ITP), support site testing and commissioning, and assist with technical standard updates.
• Project Support: Collaborate with drafters, designers, and Project Owners Representatives (POR). Assist project management with safety, cost, quality, and milestone tracking, progress reporting, and schedule coordination.
• Technical Problem Solving: Resolve complex or unusual design and field engineering challenges through independent studies, analysis, and sound technical judgment.
• Engineering Practice: Contribute to engineering practices, develop technical standards, and provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineering professionals.

Qualifications

• Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant electrical/P&C engineering experience.
• Demonstrated electrical, P&C, and/or security design experience within utility, heavy industrial, or power systems environments, specifically managing medium-complexity projects from concept through execution.
• Proven hands‑on proficiency in equipment layout design, wiring and schematic development, equipment sizing, and cable type/size selection.
• Practical experience delivering security system designs, authoring Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and supporting or executing on‑site testing and commissioning.
• Familiarity with CAD systems, drawing standards, and standard industry design/analysis software. Our client utilizes Digital Sign and Seal Technology (Notarius subscription may be required).
• Demonstrated success working alongside drafters, designers, and Project Owners Representatives (POR), including providing technical guidance or mentorship to junior team members.
• Prior familiarity with BC Hydro engineering and drafting standards is considered a strong asset.
• Intermediate English communication skills (written and spoken) and proficient working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

• P.Eng and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired

• Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
• Every contractor must supply their own Smart Phone. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network
