Ontario, From $85,000 a year – Permanent, Full-time

Otter Energy is one of Ontario’s largest and most established solar companies, with its roots in solar project construction and maintenance.

Otter is seeking a full-time Electrical Manager who is passionate about energy and sustainability.

In this role, you will use your existing knowledge and experience to navigate Otter Energy’s electrical team towards continued success. The ideal candidate is someone with a background in solar or electrical system design, who can be hands-on and strives to take ownership over what they do. Your leadership and mentorship will help to elevate Otter Energy’s electrical team.

JOB SUMMARY :

The Electrical Manager will work closely with the Engineering and Operations teams to support all electrical aspects of Otter Energy’s projects. You will also play an essential role in supporting and implementing the design, permitting, construction, and commissioning of commercial and residential solar systems.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Manage and coordinate projects, including planning, scheduling, and budgeting
  • Collaborate with engineers and other team members to design electrical systems
  • Oversee the installation, operation, and maintenance of electrical systems
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality standards
  • Provide technical support and guidance to project teams
  • Monitor project progress and address any issues that arise
  • Understand the requirements of solar system design and utility interconnection
  • Liaising with clients, vendors, and other electricians
  • Perform project closeout, including electrical system testing
  • Participate in the equipment selection and procurement process
  • Use and understand electrical single line diagram and installation details
  • Application of regulations to the area of expertise and ensuring compliance
  • Incorporation of safety and risk analysis into equipment designs
  • Electrical power and distribution systems designed to support other disciplines / departments / offices
  • Tie in solar installations to main service panels
  • Utilize knowledge of A / C and D / C systems
  • Working within a team environment to complete project assignments
  • Provide leadership and training to the electrical team as well as ensure learning objectives are being met for apprentice electricians
  • Additional duties as required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & KEY COMPETENCIES :

  • Time management, organization, and prioritization skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Willingness to learn new skills, such as solar system design and site analysis
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of the solar industry and solar design software is considered an asset
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to work independently, make decisions and take responsibility for technical matters
  • Have excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to bend, lift, and twist as well as the ability to lift 50lbs on a frequent or repetitive basis
  • Knowledgeable of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and possesses a strong safety focus
  • Self-motivated and a strong team player
  • Ability to travel within the province and to work away from home for the workweek

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE :

  • 5+ years experience as an electrician
  • 2+ years of solar experience
  • 5+ years experience in a leadership role
