Job Description

The Electrical Detail Designer III will have a strong understanding of the engineering and production environment in electrical system design and installation. The role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to design in accordance with applicable codes and standards, while meeting client and class requirements. Responsibilities include generating electrical elements of 3D models, producing complete Manufacturing Information (MI) within scheduled plans and budgets, and ensuring MI aligns with VSY Standards, Quality, and Engineering Processes. The candidate should work well with senior staff, be capable of independent work, provide supervision to junior designers, and contribute to electrical design development.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Create and support 3D modeling.
  • Develop 2D production drawings and support/check them.
  • Understand and develop single line diagrams, designs, calculations, plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Have extensive understanding of engineering discipline drawings, wiring diagrams, control logic diagrams, and system descriptions.
  • Assist in developing reports and specifications.
  • Support project activities including management, strategic planning, client support, and business analysis.
  • Assist with scheduling and time management.
  • Apply standard engineering tasks and comply with applicable codes.
  • Evaluate and modify techniques and procedures to meet project goals efficiently.
  • Participate in internal and external design meetings.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines and related parties.
  • Mentor and guide junior staff.
  • Conduct quality control checks on engineering deliverables and drawings.
Education and Experience
  • Electrical Engineering Degree or Certified Electrical Technologist Diploma.
  • 4-6 years of relevant experience in Electrical Engineering.
Skills, Knowledge, and Competencies
  • Experience with CAD software, preferably CADMATIC.
  • Strong organizational, computer, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Registration or eligibility to register with ASTTBC or APEGA.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Technical writing skills for detailed specifications, procedures, and reports.
  • Effective communication across all levels of staff and management.
  • Willingness to travel and work overtime as needed.
  • Background in shipbuilding and/or electrical fields is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Engineering standards and codes.
  • Understanding of mechanical, HVAC, and electrical systems, project implementation, and electrical construction processes.
