Job summary

Actalent in Markham, ON is seeking a Protection and Control Panel Design Engineer to analyze customer applications and design panels including protection, control, automation, SCADA, and telecom. You will develop BOMs, wiring drawings, and diagrams using AutoCAD, Ebase and SAP, and work closely with customers and drafting teams on technical execution.

You will perform load calculations and heat rise analysis, design control logic for complex schemes, and create test plans and reports.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Ebase or SAP.
• Ability to create wiring diagrams and power diagrams.
• Lean/6 Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt preferred.
• P.Eng certification is an asset.

Job Title: Protection and Control Panel Design Engineer Job Description We are seeking a skilled Protection and Control Panel Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing customer applications and specifications to design a range of panels including protection, control, automation, SCADA, and telecom. This role requires proficiency in creating mechanical layouts, single line diagrams, three line diagrams, schematic diagrams, power diagrams, and control diagrams. The engineer will also be responsible for developing bills of materials, engineering instructions, wiring drawings, wire lists, and wire tags to meet user specifications using tools like AutoCAD, Ebase, and SAP. Responsibilities

• Analyze customer applications and specifications to design various panels.
• Create mechanical layouts, single line, three line, schematic, power, and control diagrams.
• Develop bills of materials, engineering instructions, and wiring drawings.
• Take full technical execution responsibility for assigned projects and discuss design requirements with customers and drafting support teams.
• Review designs from the back office and submit them for customer approval.
• Perform engineering studies such as load calculation and heat rise analysis.
• Design control logic solutions for complex control schemes.
• Create test plans, procedures, and reports.
• Provide training, peer checks, design support, and mentoring to team members.
• Review lessons learned and recommend changes to checklists and procedures.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in electrical panel design and single line diagrams.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Ebase, or SAP.
• Ability to create wiring diagrams and power diagrams.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience in designing power system control schemes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• LEAN process experience in solving practical business problems.
• Experience in turn-key Protection and Control projects.
• Strong understanding of CSA, UL, and CE requirements.
• Lean/6 Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification preferred.
• P.Eng Certification is an asset.

Work Environment

This position requires on-site work in Markham, five days a week. The role involves both office work and time spent on the production floor where panel assembly occurs. The work environment combines the stability of an on-site engineering setting with occasional travel to the U.S. Engineers will interact with industry-leading protection relays, SCADA systems, and advanced test equipment, contributing to the modernization and energy transition efforts of a global energy leader.

This is a Contract position based out of Markham, ON.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.50 - $46.50/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
