Job summary

Prodomax Automation Ltd. in Barrie, Ontario, is seeking an Electrical Designer to join its engineering team.

You will design automated PLC control systems using AutoCAD Electrical and EPLAN, supporting projects for a blue-chip customer base since 1971. Junior to Senior levels offered; responsibilities scale with experience, including design documentation, BOMs, load calculations, safety architectures, and collaboration with customers and suppliers.

Qualifications

  • The candidate holds an Engineering Degree or CET and has entry level to intermediate design experience.
  • Basic understanding of other project disciplines such as Fluid Power and Mechanical Design.
  • Familiar with PLC architecture including discrete and remote I/O and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing automated PLC control systems using AutoCAD Electrical and EPLAN.
  • Provide design documentation including component specifications and approvals.
  • Load calculations on power distribution panels and control power supplies.
  • Provide Bills of Materials based on system design.
  • Interact with customers and suppliers to ensure requirements are met.
  • Order electrical material using an ERP program.

Prodomax Automation Ltd. is currently seeking an ELECTRICAL DESIGNER to join our team. Located in Barrie, Ontario, Prodomax is a specialized industrial engineering firm focused on designing complex automation with a blue-chip customer base since 1971. Operating from two facilities totaling 200,000 square feet with 200+ employees; we are ISO 9001:2015 certified.

The Opportunity – ELECTRICAL DESIGNER

You will provide Electrical Design solutions reporting directly to the Electrical Design Supervisor. Your level within the role will be determined by the skills and experience you bring when taking on this exciting career opportunity. Responsibilities are noted as you progress within the role.

Junior
Job Responsibilities
  • Assist in designing automated PLC control systems using AutoCAD Electrical and Eplan incorporating equipment from manufacturers such as Allen Bradley, Siemens and Omron
  • Provide design documentation with supervision including:
  • Component specifications and approval based on customer requirements
  • Safety architecture and plan layouts for safety audit purposes
  • Load calculations on power distribution panels, control power supplies as well as weld systems
  • Provide Bill of Materials based on system design
  • Assist with floor level support during build with respect to design changes
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to streamline delivery
  • Assist with development of efficient means and standards to ensure budgets and schedules are met
  • Assist in validating system safeties function as designed
  • Order electrical material using an ERP program
  • Participate in interactions with customers and suppliers
Job Qualifications
  • Engineering Degree or Engineering Technologist/Technician (BSc. P. Eng. or CET.)
  • Entry level design experience
  • Basic understanding of other project disciplines (i.e. Fluid Power, Mechanical Design)
  • Basic knowledge of PLC architecture including discrete and remote I/O
  • Basic knowledge of communication networks (Ethernet IP, RIO, Profibus, Devicenet. Etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD software with Acad Electrical preferred
  • Basic understanding of load calculations
  • Familiar with control reliable circuits, safety PLC systems and applicable safety standards with respect to automated equipment

  • Lead projects as an electrical designer in a team environment
Job Qualifications
  • Engineering Degree or Engineering Technologist/Technician (BSc. P. Eng. or CET.)
  • Minimum 5 years direct working experience
  • Good understanding of other project disciplines (i.e. Fluid Power, Mechanical Design)
  • Working knowledge of PLC architecture including discrete and remote I/O
  • Working knowledge of communication networks (Ethernet IP, RIO, Profibus, Devicenet. Etc.)
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD software with Acad Electrical preferred
  • Capable of performing load calculations for resistance welding, Mig welding and assembly production lines
  • Direct experience with control reliable circuits and Safety PLC Systems and knowledge of the applicable safety standards with respect to automated equipment
