Job summary

Eclipse Automation is seeking an Electrical Design Team Lead to provide leadership and coordination of electrical hardware design, policy implementation, and cross-department liaison to meet budgets and project goals.

The ideal candidate has a University Degree or College Diploma in Electrical/Systems/Mechatronics, 7+ years in custom automation, and strong skills in EPLAN and AutoCAD, with a focus on safety, quality, and reliability.

Qualifications

  • Has completed a University Degree or College Diploma in Electrical, Systems, or Mechatronics, or Robotics Automation Technology
  • Must have intermediate level experience with EPLAN and AutoCAD and be proficient with MS Office
  • Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical controls, and integration of equipment would be an asset
  • 7+ years of experience in the custom automation industry
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to motivate teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously

Responsibilities

  • Lead hardware design team and coordinate electrical design within projects
  • Review and approve project designs to meet quality, safety, and reliability standards
  • Ensure concepts meet Eclipse Automation quality and safety standards
  • Coach and mentor department staff in design practices and standards
  • Coordinate project designs and ensure on-time delivery of components and machinery
  • Manage project budgets and milestones with project management
  • Maintain ISO standards compliance across projects
  • Liaise with partners, customers, vendors, and distributors
  • Oversee planning and development of electrical and controls designs

The Position:

Reporting to the Electrical Engineering Manager, the Electrical Engineering Electrical Design Team Lead will provide leadership and coordination of Electrical Hardware Design functions and costing. The incumbent will assist in the development and implementation of Electrical Engineering policies and procedures, liaise directly with other department personnel to ensure project goals are met on budget, while delivering the Eclipse Vision and the Eclipse Entrepreneurial Culture.

What You'll Do Here:
  • Recognize problems, initiate action, assist in problem solving, and evaluate results on major hardware design issues prior to releasing drawings to manufacturing
  • Review and approve all project designs and that the designs meet the Eclipse high standards of quality, reliability, and safety
  • Develop and coordinate project designs within the Electrical Engineering team
  • Ensure concepts meet Eclipse Automation quality, safety, and reliability standards
  • Guide, direct, teach, assist, and advise department staff on practical design practices and standards
  • Assist resources in the department in their development through coaching and mentoring
  • Guide, organize, and coordinate assigned staff to prioritize project delivery
  • Lead the hardware design project team to ensure project contract deliverables are met
  • Work to specific project budgets and milestones provided by project management
  • Promote positive relations with partners, customers, vendors, and distributors
  • Liaise between all departments to ensure on time delivery of purchased items and on time delivery of Eclipse machinery and equipment
  • Promote environmentally and ergonomically safe conceptual product and/or processes to ensure safety of Eclipse personnel and the customer’s employees
  • Initiate and supervise the planning and development of project electrical and controls designs and order any required department materials
Project Execution
  • Act as the point-of-contact for the Project Management department for all for assigned projects
  • Update project completion with respect to weekly confirmation of critical milestones, labour hours, material budget, and percent complete on project
  • Ensure scheduled milestones are met and elevate to Project Management if a milestone is at risk
  • Update Open Issues List as required
  • Assist in performance reviews
  • Assume full responsibility for hardware design scope of assigned projects
  • Ensure that Company ISO Standards are followed
  • Ensure project tasks are entered correctly and promptly for accurate man hour records for Project Management department
  • Respond to CARs issued to the department, as requested
