Job summary

GDI Ainsworth in Mississauga, ON is seeking an Electric Motor Mechanic to set up and operate tools to produce precision motor parts, repair components, and service machinery. You will apply mechanics knowledge, shop math, and material properties to fabricate or modify parts and maintain industrial equipment.

The role requires basic education, strong English communication, mathematical skills, and the ability to work with or without supervision.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education (or equivalent) preferred with strong English communication.
  • Ability to work with or without supervision and make decisions on own.
  • Mechanically inclined with understanding of industrial processes and applications.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles and tests electric motor and generator components (stators, armatures, rotors).
  • Inspects cores, aligns laminations as required.
  • Tests windings for housing clearance, grounds and short circuits with appropriate equipment.
  • Dismantles and assesses mechanical condition using verniers, micrometers, gauges, etc.
  • Maintains quality standards and completes documentation clearly and concisely.
  • Interacts with customers and coworkers to ensure service standards are met.
  • On-site diagnosis or repair of customer equipment as required.
  • Adheres to health, safety and environmental policies and company procedures.

Job Summary

The Electric Motor Mechanic will be responsible for set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. Ability to fabricate, modify, or repair motor instruments, fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines and should be able to apply knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Assembles and tests electric motor and generator stators, armatures, or rotors:
  • Inspects cores for defects and aligns laminations as required
  • Tests windings for motor-housing clearance, grounds, and short circuits, using clearance gauge, growler, surge testers, meters, meggers, core loss testers, resistance bridges and other relevant related equipment.
  • Able to dismantle and assess mechanical condition of motor visually as well as using mechanical measuring devices such as verniers, micrometers, feeler gauges, etc.
  • Complete tasks in an orderly, professional and efficient manner
  • Ensure quality standards are met or exceeded
  • Complete all documentation in a clear, neat and concise manner
  • Interact with customers and fellow workers to insure all service standards are met or exceeded
  • To be able to go on site to diagnose or repair customer equipment as required
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Perform all job functions in a safe and healthful manner, abiding by and in accordance with all applicable Health, Safety and Environmental company policies and government legislation/regulations.
  • Adhere to the Company's Quality System operating procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Management.
Qualifications
  • Minimum grade 12 education (or equivalent) preferred with good communication skills in English and strong mathematic and writing skills
  • Able to work with or without supervision and able to make decisions on his/her own
  • Mechanically inclined with a good understanding of industrial process and application
  • Must be able to work and interact with others in a fair and friendly environment
  • A valid driver's license with a clean record

The pay range is $28.00 to $38.00 per hour. Actual salaries will vary based on factors such as education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as alignment with market data. The base salary is just one component of Ainsworth's total compensation package, which also includes additional rewards, benefits and health insurance, among others.
