About the Role:
As Environment Manager, you will support the strategic and operational needs of ATCO. You will optimize the ATCO’s IT environments, ensuring consistency, maximizing business benefit and efficiency. You will provide technical consultancy on environments and software deployment - expertise on underlying infrastructure, technologies and tools (across all IT application development areas).
The various software development environments we operate are a strategic investment for ATCO. They allow our regulatory, non-regulatory and operational solutions to be developed, tested, supported and run. They help us all ensure that software/data/configurations deployed into the production environment work the first time as intended to provide great experience for our customers and internal teams alike.
What You Get to Do:
Environment Set-Up and Management
- Work closely and collaboratively with other technical resources on cross-functional solutions
- Manage the creation of new test environments as required, engaging architecture and project teams to capture functional and capacity requirements and ensure the environment is correctly provisioned to meet those requirements. Also ensure that it accurately reflects production environment.
- Develop/maintain environment management best practices and standards
- Be a single point of contact for test environment provisioning and availability
- Capture and/or review project/program environment and data requirements, managing the provision of environments and data to meet those requirements
- Ensure environments are maintained to agreed service levels by support functions and 3rd party suppliers
- Work with the IT teams to ensure that test environments are monitored, and application version and patches are coordinated and deployed timely
- Plan and coordinate with projects for scheduled data refresh to facilitate project delivery
- Keep track of code/config deployed across various environments to maintain consistency
Issue Identification, Resolution and Risk Analysis
- Proactively identify environment issues that could impact testing, development or the on-time delivery of projects/programs
- Actively drive any issues to resolution by fixing or coordinating with the respective teams
- Communicate and report all environment delivery related issues and progress to the appropriate stakeholder/requestor
- Implement process or technology to permanently address recurring issues
Scheduling
- Manage the scheduling of new environments, plan for scheduled upgrades and data refresh activities
- Manage test environment bookings and schedule clashes
- Create the plan for environment refresh and planned patches
Improvements and Automation
- Champion and develop automated provisioning and configuration management
- Assist with process and release/deployment automation
- Accountable to develop, measure and report on environment availability and performance metrics
- Manage any incidents of poor environment performance to continually improve testing deliverables
- Implement a framework for supporting DevOps and working towards CI/CD with the change/development teams
- Analyze ATCO’s existing environment and testing practices, suggesting areas to improve and automate, taking lead on implementing the needed improvements
- Build a better experience for direct customers/stakeholders and for all of IT
- Drive change throughout IT and our business in the best interest of environment best practices, automation, efficiency and testing success
What You Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in environment management and experience with cloud platform management, preferably Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
- Demonstrable leadership experience in working with technical teams
- Proven ability to successfully manage external partners/vendors
- Strength in identifying complex problems and finding creative solutions
- Track record of successfully delivering test environments and managing conflict within complex technology projects
- Strong understanding of overall IT architecture and cloud solutions
- Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong analytical, technical and problem-solving skills, with a high attention to detail
- Familiarity with cybersecurity guidelines and best practices
- Understanding of testing processes and how they fit within the project delivery processes
- Excellent communication skills to provide management support to all stakeholders involved.
- Initiative to understand the industry practices and continuously work to mature this domain.
- Proven ability to respond well to change and maintain flexibility while keeping focus on objectives
- Knowledge of ITIL framework
- Experience working in different IT operating models
- Experience in Configuration Management
- Knowledge of Release Management Practices
