Job Description

The incumbent is responsible for providing friendly, efficient service following all Algonquin College Food Services operating standards, policies, and procedures. The Counter Assistant offers friendly and efficient counter service and food production while maintaining a hygienic work environment. The incumbent will assist in stocking and cleaning area tools when necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Prepare food efficiently and courteously according to customer requests, ensuring a clean and sanitized work area.
2. Serve on the food line and operate the cash register as required.
3. Stock products, sweep the area, empty garbage, and wash dishes when needed.
4. Wash, cut, and store food items properly per directions and/or par stocks, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation.
5. Ensure proper labeling of items.

Required Qualifications

• Secondary School (Grade 12) diploma.
• Experience handling cash is an asset for cashier positions.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure.
• Provide speedy, courteous, and tactful service.
• Physical ability to lift, bend, push, pull, and stock merchandise.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Knowledge of kitchen sanitation and safety standards is an asset.

Position is paid at Payband 2 (Food Services Worker A). The vacancy is for P18634. Positions are scheduled for up to 24 hours per week, with some requiring early morning, daytime, or evening hours. The work locations include The Fix, Portable Feast, or Tim Hortons.

Note: These are 10-month positions with an annual seasonal layoff of up to two months. Regular onsite work at Algonquin College's Woodroffe (Ottawa) Campus is required.
