What is the opportunity?

As Manager of Asset Recovery & Litigation, you support the protection of RBC assets including mitigating financial, reputation, regulatory and legal risk and the recovery of such assets that are fraudulently misappropriated. Losses typically between $25,000 to $500,000>. You share responsibility for all components of the Fraud Management Value Chain with peers and the Senior Manager. Lead recovery efforts for losses due to fraud and other misconduct against RBC and against our valued clients.

What will you do?

  • Identify sources of recovery for RBC losses resulting from fraud, unjust enrichment, fraud against clients, operational errors and other misconducts and implement steps to realize on these sources.
  • Manages high risk cases involving fraud against clients for return of financial losses and assets. i.e. wire cases, ACH and other electronic payments
  • Reduce recovery and litigation costs by assisting external counsel in the preparation of civil litigation filings, including assembling necessary production materials.
  • Completes and ensures all litigation cases comply with the CIS/FC Litigation and Prosecution Policy and all other judicial, legislative, and regulatory constraints.
  • Accountable to maintain up-to-date, complete and accurate documentation of litigation progress in CIS/FC case management system.
  • Accountable to maintain up-to-date information for losses and recoveries on the CIS Wire database (FAC – recalls) and accountable for quarterly reporting.
  • Negotiate terms of settlement relating to the recovery of amounts lost due to fraud, misconduct, or operational error.
  • Responsible for managing and ensuring all civil judgments and writs are renewed within timeframe.
  • Responsible for ensuring all restitutions are updated in database and all payments are credited to proper GL.
  • Provide support to the Associate Director, Asset Recovery, in developing and implementing asset recovery strategies.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Knowledge of the Bills of Exchange Act and Canadian Payments Association (CPA) Rules; in depth knowledge of Civil and Criminal Law
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with RBC banking policies and procedures
  • Skilled in all Microsoft Office applications and tracing skills
  • Effective and strong people management skills
  • Able to lead by example through provision of knowledge, cooperation and teamwork
  • Experience gathering and preserving evidence for the purpose of presenting the evidence before the courts

Nice-to-have

  • University degree or equivalent experience
  • Previous investigation/audit experience
  • Basic Accounting courses
  • Basic Business Law courses
