Position Overview

Directly accountable to the Manager, Health Services, the Registered Nurse provides registered nursing services for patient/residents, including those with complex and unpredictable health needs. These services include: independent nursing services, administration of prescribed medical treatments, a leadership role within the health care team, and facilitating coordination of patient/resident care and discharge. May be responsible for directing other nurses, students, health care aides, and support staff in patient/resident care. Collaborates with physicians and other health professionals in the facility and community. Demonstrates a commitment to the Mission, Vision, Values, goals, and objectives of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and River Park Gardens. Performs all duties in accordance with health and safety regulations, policies, and procedures (e.g., PPE use). Notifies supervisors of any safety concerns or incidents.

Experience
  • Experience with chronic illness, geriatrics, and complex continuing care.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing education program required.
  • Post-basic program completion may be preferred or required.
  • Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) certification preferred.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Maintain registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
  • Participation in professional associations like ARNM is preferred.
  • CPR at the Targeted Responder Level is required.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Knowledge of College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba Standards, CNA Code of Ethics, RHPA scope of practice, and regional policies.
  • Knowledge of nursing care related to clinical area, legislated acts, and health information privacy laws.
  • Effective communication skills in English; proficiency in an Indigenous language or knowledge of Indigenous customs is an asset.
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, prioritization, and adaptability skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, including assuming the Charge Nurse role if assigned.
  • Competence in computerized systems including MDS and Care Organizer programs.
