Job Description

Personal Support Workers (PSW) are invited to apply for part-time positions at Tendercare Living Centre, a 194-bed long-term care home located in Scarborough, Ontario. You will have the opportunity to provide care and services to a maximum of eight residents.

Under the supervision of Registered Staff, the PSW provides direct personal and nursing care to meet the physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of residents in accordance with home policies, procedures, and routines.

Responsibilities

1. Assist in providing direct care for residents, including ambulation, feeding, bathing, and grooming.
2. Encourage participation in activity programs by assisting residents to and from activities.
3. Assist with meal service and nourishment delivery, providing feeding assistance as required.
4. Provide emotional and social support to residents and families, including palliative care.
5. Follow departmental policies and procedures regarding documentation, quality assurance, fire safety, environment, and infection control.
6. Consult with and inform supervisors about unit activities, resident needs, and care matters.
7. Participate in care conferences and document resident care plans.

Qualifications

1. Completed a PSW program meeting standards set by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, the National Association of Career Colleges, or the Ontario Community Support Association, with a minimum of 600 hours including class and practical experience.
2. Experience in nursing within long-term care is required.
3. Knowledge of care planning systems and documentation is required.
4. Physically and mentally capable of performing duties.
5. Ability to communicate positively with staff, residents, and families.
6. Proficiency in Cantonese or Mandarin is an asset.
7. Demonstrates empathy, concern, and interest in providing quality care.
8. Good organizational skills and ability to complete assignments timely.
9. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
10. Ability to provide resident care in accordance with legislation, routines, and care plans, and to understand instructions in English.
