Job Title: Sr Design Lead (Mech) - Industrial Automation
Location: Cambridge, ON - Onsite
Job Type: Full-Time/Contract
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of manufacturing lines, focusing on simulation and project delivery.
- Perform engineering calculations for machine and tool designs, including strength, speed, horsepower, temperature, pressure, and force.
- Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to determine shape, dimensions, hardness, etc.
- Create working and detailed drawings, and bills of materials using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
- Ensure designs comply with standards such as OSHA and CE.
- Review drawings for accuracy, material selection, machining techniques, finishes, and hardness. Capable of designing tooling from sketches or verbal concepts.
- Communicate design changes and progress to the Mechanical Engineering Manager and supervising designer.
- Lead the development of lean manufacturing systems to reduce waste, increase throughput, and shorten lead times.
- Develop and implement job/workstation designs focusing on ergonomics and operator satisfaction.
- Apply tooling, equipment, automation, robotics, and material handling systems to improve safety, quality, and cost.
- Maintain standard engineering data such as layouts, process flow diagrams, capacity charts, time studies, and productivity metrics.
- Collaborate with Product Development and Design Engineering to identify Design for Manufacturing opportunities.
- Perform other duties as needed (not an exhaustive list).
Qualifications and Skills:
- Expert-level knowledge of manufacturing processes, cycle time calculation, ergonomics, FMEA, DFM, DFA, and throughput calculation.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
- Strong knowledge of drafting principles.
- Experience designing tooling from sketches or verbal concepts.
- Understanding of pneumatics.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Analytical skills for engineering calculations and design analysis.
- Attention to detail in reviewing drawings and documentation.
- Familiarity with ISO procedures and quality standards.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field, with relevant experience or demonstrated skills and abilities.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
Additional Requirements:
- Onsite presence in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada.
- Highly motivated, responsible, with excellent communication and presentation skills.
