Responsible for the development, delivery, coordination, and evaluation of education programs for TGLN clinical employees and health care professionals involved in organ and tissue donation across the province to promote clinical practice compliance with current organ and tissue donation accepted leading practices and established standards.
Here Is What You Will Be Doing
- Plans, designs, delivers, evaluates, and signs off on initial education in orientation to establish clinical/consent competency for new clinical staff
- Develops, delivers and evaluates continuing education programs, ensuring clinical practice of Ontario Health (TGLN) employees complies with current organ and tissue donation accepted leading practices and established standards
- Develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates clinical initiatives education for health care professionals involved in organ and tissue donation across the province.
- Provides input into Ontario Health (TGLN) clinical policy development and incorporates policy changes into education programs for staff as required.
- Facilitates external content experts to enhance knowledge transfer (i.e.: Standardized Patient Actors).
- Assess need for, and integrates new practices or clinical updates into orientation content.
- Utilizes adult education principles and various modes of knowledge transfer (i.e.: video, hands-on etc.).
- Provides application training on Ontario Health (TGLN) computerized database.
- Documents training to meet Health Canada requirements by ensuring necessary documents are located into employee education files.
- Manages the eLearning management system which shares educational content and houses learning records.
- Utilizes eLearning technology to develop learning materials.
- Surveys learning needs and requirements to assess clinical education and professional development needs.
- Evaluates continued staff competency through observation, skill-based or problem-solving scenarios and written examinations to ensure safe and competent practice and achievement of positive donation outcomes for donor families, and transplant program stakeholders.
- Collaborates with external agencies to design educational formats and to deliver education content.
- Plans, develops, and coordinates educational conferences, seminars, and sessions for multidisciplinary audiences.
- Consults Colleges and other Professional Associations regarding practice guidelines for Registered Healthcare professionals.
- Identifies leading practices as informed by other Organ Procurement Organizations, clinical leadership, research of associated theories and emerging ideas, etc.
- Communicates Health Canada and AATB education documentation requirements.
- Works in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety/Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act
Here is what you will need to be successful:
Education And Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required
- A Master of Science in an associated field or education is preferred, as is experience in a Critical Care Area/Related Field and Education Program Development.
Knowledge And Skills
- Five (5) years working experience in a critical care area or related field and/or education program development, or a combination of equivalent experience and education.
- Demonstrates extensive knowledge of Adult Education Principles, and teaching techniques.
- Demonstrates knowledge of content areas including: legislation, federal and professional standards, (Health Disciplines Act, Gift of Life Act, Health Care Consent Act, Coroner's Act, Ontario Hospital Act, Privacy Act, Criminal Code), Ontario Health (TGLN) Clinical Process Instructions, and physiological and practical knowledge of topics such as, neurological death pathophysiology, bereavement and grief theory, end-of-life care, donation discussion techniques, optimal clinical management, screening, allocation, recovery and perfusion of organs, in addition to hospital development strategies;
- Demonstrates well-developed influencing, negotiating, or counselling skills which influence or cause behavioral change to reconcile significantly diverse viewpoints amongst different constituencies inside or outside the organization.
- Demonstrates familiarity with utilizing techniques that will shift attitudes and beliefs to affect a change in the practice of healthcare professionals.
- Proficiency at an advanced level with MS Office suite of programs, specifically, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and eLearning authoring tools an asset
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of information technologies that can be utilized to transmit education sessions & the ability to remain current with shifting technology.
