Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assist with developing and delivering age-appropriate programs.
  • Supervise and guide children in daily activities.
  • Provide a safe, happy environment and maintain cleanliness.
  • Record pertinent information for each child and maintain attendance records.
  • Ensure activities comply with governing child care acts and program standards.
  • Communicate with parents daily via journals, notes, or verbally.
  • Collaborate with team to plan indoor/outdoor activities related to curriculum.
  • Support children with diverse needs and maintain confidentiality.

Education

Diploma in Early Childhood Education and registered with the Ontario College of ECE preferred
College diploma or certificate in the human services field including CYW, ECEA, DSW
Vulnerable Persons Sector criminal background check
TB test
Health Assessment and up to date immunizations
Proficiency in English
Fluency in other languages an asset
Standard First Aid and CPR certification

Early Childhood Educator – Job Description

This is a one (1) year contract position

Ridge K.I.D.S. requires a Early Childhood Educator to work with a program team to in providing guidance and instruction to children, from infancy to school age, in a variety of educational subjects and life skills. Subjects and life skills include music, art, social science, literature, physical activity, personal hygiene and healthy eating. In addition, the Educator will assist children with nurturing developmental and cognitive skills such as physical, mental, and social development. They foster cooperative social behaviour through games and group projects to assist children in forming satisfying relationships with other children and adults. They work with the team to instruct children in practices of personal cleanliness and self-care. The Educator works with the program team to provide periods of strenuous activity with periods of rest or light activity to avoid overstimulation and fatigue. The Educator discusses students' progress with co-workers to ensure constant communication about the children's development.

  • Assist with developing and delivering age appropriate programs.
  • Supervise, guide and assist children in daily activities.

  • Ensure activities adhere to the governing child care act(s).
  • Maintain equipment and assist in housekeeping duties.
  • Read each individual child's files in their class and be knowledgeable about the children’s medical and developmental histories.
  • Observe children to detect signs of ill health or emotional disturbance, and to evaluate progress.
  • Interact with children to encourage their involvement in activities.
  • Provide a warm, safe, and caring environment that is kept orderly, clean, and appealing.
  • Plan, prepare, and implement daily activities (indoor/outdoor) as they relate to the curriculum.
  • Follow and implement Ridge K.I.D.S. Program Statement
  • Assists in maintaining ongoing developmental records for each child, including keeping records of all developing skills (physical, social, emotional, and cognitive).
  • Maintain good communication with parents on a daily basis through the use of electronic journals or daily sheets, notes and/or verbally.
  • Work with other staff members to form a positive, supportive team atmosphere.
  • Ensure confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Maintain adherence to all company policies and procedures, including safety requirements.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of students with an emphasis on language development and emergent literacy skills.
  • Provide activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving appropriate to the development levels of the children
  • Model developmentally appropriate activities and positive behaviour management techniques through daily contact with children and staff in the classroom.
  • Select books, equipment and other instructional materials appropriate for the program.
  • Include materials and experiences in the classroom that are culturally appropriate and represent diversity.
  • Maintain attendance records of children.
  • Participate in team planning sessions with all team program staff to ensure well-coordinated and effective delivery of programs.
  • Work cooperatively and effectively as a team member by communicating and contributing information on a continuous basis.
  • Provide support for other early childhood providers.
  • Work with the RECE on the completion of pre and post assessments for children.
  • Maintain open, friendly, and cooperative relationship with each child's family and encourage their involvement in the program.
  • Continue professional development through attending workshops, conferences and other staff development.
  • Be sensitive to individual children's differences and needs, and be willing to adjust the program and curriculum to meet those individual needs.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of current child development practices.
  • Demonstrate behaviour that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  • Diploma in Early Childhood Education and registered with the Ontario College of ECE preferred
  • Or a College diploma or certificate in the human services field including: Child and Youth Worker (CYW), Early Childhood Educator Assistant Assistant (ECEA), Developmental Social Work (DSW) etc.
  • Vulnerable Persons Sector criminal background check. (within 6 months of hire date)
  • TB test required upon hiring

  • Regular to frequent requirement, and as needed, to lift children (up to 45 lbs.), including bending, stooping, stretching, squatting, pushing and pulling, and sitting and walking.
  • Noise level can be moderate to loud.
  • Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, lifting and supporting children.
  • Maybe required to work alone in a program
