Job summary

Northern Lakes College seeks an Educational Support role to provide student support, program administration, and instructional assistance across multiple centres in Slave Lake, High Prairie, Peace River or Fairview.   • Experience with Microsoft Office 365 is required.
  • A clean vulnerable sector criminal record check prior to commencement is required.
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license is required.
  • A combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students in overcoming barriers and provide front-line client services.
  • Support planning, preparation, delivery, and evaluation of instruction and admin duties.
  • Administer course and College evaluation forms, and assist with applications, registrations and withdrawals.
  • Provide access to financial information such as loans, grants, and bursaries if required.
  • Support in delivering tutorial workshops and creating an interactive learning environment.

Nature and Scope of Work

Reporting to the Chair, Academic Upgrading, is responsible for providing student support in the areas of subject coaching, program support and administration. Responsibilities include assisting students, supporting the planning, preparation, delivery, and evaluation of instruction and administrative duties.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist students in overcoming barriers
  • Ensure students are familiar with the contents of the student handbooks
  • Assist students to resolve academic concerns, provide access to educational, and career resources
  • Be accessible to students and encourage students to ask questions and seek educational support.
  • Act as a resource for students experiencing academic problems
  • Communicate with each student on a regular basis, and encourage peer support activities
  • Support the planning, preparation, delivery, and evaluation of instruction
  • Support students to work with faculty
  • Advise students on administrative matters such as the application, registration, and withdrawal processes
  • Provide access to financial support information such as loans, grants, and bursaries if required
  • Assist in the delivery of tutorial workshops
  • Be knowledgeable about course content and expectations
  • Assist in the creation of an interactive learning environment ensuring tools of learning are accessible
  • Assist students with course assignments, identifying, assisting, monitoring students experiencing difficulties, and communicating learning issues to faculty
Community Education Committee (CEC) Services
  • Record CEC minutes
  • Contact CEC members for meetings
  • Set up facility for meetings
  • Prepare and disseminate agenda packages
  • Preparing the Student Learning Assistant report
  • Assist with Council of Community Education Committees (CCEC) report
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Proof read curriculum documents, Student Handbooks, and online course materials
  • Scan and store program documents such as exams and course outlines
  • Assist with student orientation activities
  • Schedule visiting instructor orientation and support
  • Administer course and College evaluation forms, ensure that appropriate forms are used for application, withdrawals, and registrations
  • Assist in supervising exams ensuring exam security and providing course instructors with a class list
  • Enter student attendance in the Attendance Tracker
Student Learning Assistant (SLA) duties (where an SLA is unavailable)
  • Provide front-line client services to the campus including the following:
  • direct individuals to the appropriate person/department
  • maintain Continuing Education interest lists
  • provide hosting duties including stocking coffee and water supplies for courses, meetings, and special events
  • Provide clients with up-to-date course and program information, collect fees for courses and books, and provide receipts
  • Provide orientation and troubleshooting for the distance technology, photocopier, and computers
  • Make appointments for the Counsellor
  • Assist students to email, print, and fax
  • Use systems within the College to track money and participants in Continuing Education courses
  • Register participants for Continuing Education courses, book rooms, vehicles, equipment, maintain vehicle service logs where campus/program has an assigned vehicle
  • Distribute CEC minutes
  • Organize space and equipment effectively to meet the needs of clients and staff
  • Act as contact person for self-paced training material such as "Making the Grade"
  • Act as the Community Access Point (CAP) Assistant
  • Maintain an up to date collection of education, career, and social support information including ordering pamphlets, resourcing materials as needed, organizing collection for easy access, and maintain list of contact/resource contacts
