Summary of Function

The Listuguj Education Directorate is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Educational Assistant (EA) who will be responsible for providing academic and behavioral support services to students at Restigouche River School. The duties of an EA will vary depending upon the needs of the student(s). The incumbent will work collaboratively with teachers to create a supportive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where all students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The Educational Assistant will report to the Methods and Resource Teacher.

Job Duties

• Maintain a professional image and demeanor with all employees, management, executives and visitors at all times.
• Facilitates student learning both individually and with small groups of students.
• Supports learning and skill development in all subject areas.
• Assists students with learning activities and/or independent study projects developed by teacher/team.
• Supports and works within the classroom management structure, discipline plan and expectations of students as outlined by the teacher.
• As required, attend student‑specific support team meetings.
• Follows guidelines followed by AGS to protect the safety and well‑being of children, youth and staff.
• Supports occupational and physiotherapists, speech‑language pathologists, vision and hearing‑impaired specialists and nurses in the delivery of required services.
• Maintains confidentiality.
• Desire and ability to work in a Mi'gmaq school setting that prioritises Mi'gmaw worldviews, knowledge and cultural values.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a team player.
• Good written and oral communication skills.

Requirements

• Post‑secondary courses in programs such as Early Childhood Development, Educational Assistant diploma, Early Childhood Education diploma, Youth Worker, Rehabilitation Worker, or equivalent post‑secondary courses in a related area from a recognized institution and/or related experience is required.
• Proficiency in English (oral and written) is required.
• Strong knowledge of Mi'gmaq culture and community.
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of First Nation needs, issues, concerns and aspirations.
• Mi'gmaq/French language is considered an asset.
• Current First Aid/CPR Certification or must be willing to take training.
• Must provide a Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector Check.
