Job summary

Upper Canada District School Board is seeking an Educational Assistant to support students with exceptional needs in a school setting. Under supervision of the Principal and with input from the Learning Resource Teacher and classroom staff, you will assist individual and small groups, implement behavioural, communication and physical support plans, and help maintain safety and confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Secondary school diploma or equivalent required.
• Two- or three-year college diploma in one of the following fields: Child & Youth Worker, Registered Early Childhood Educator*, Behavioral Science Technician, Educational Assistant, Developmental Services Worker or Social Service Worker, Registered Nurse**, Registered Nursing Assistant or Registered Practical Nurse**
• Bachelor degrees in related fields recognized (e.g., Child Studies, Sociology, Psychology)
• BMS training/certification is an asset
• Related work experience is an asset

Responsibilities

• Supports development and implementation of goals based on student academic needs and IEP.
• Supports therapeutic programs identified by Board personnel/external agencies.
• Administers medication and maintains records as authorized by school administrator.
• Supports safety and wellbeing per student care plans.
• Encourages use of adaptive and assistive technology to meet learning needs.
• Assists with communication needs via sign language, braille or other methods as required.
• Maintains student progress records and data.
• Supports behavior management programs in cooperation with staff.
• Participates in meetings and professional development as required.
• Attends Student Success Team meetings and adheres to attendance policies.
