Job summary

Gitsegukla Elementary School is seeking three Education Assistants to support students with special needs, implement IEPs, and promote independence. You will work closely with teachers and the student support team to provide one-to-one and small group assistance.

Ideal candidates have a post-secondary credential in the field and experience with students who have diverse needs. This role emphasizes collaboration, safety, and confidentiality within a school setting.

Qualifications

• Adaptability to changing situations and direction from professionals.
• Knowledge of teaching methods for students with special needs.
• Understanding of child development and behavior intervention strategies.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to work cooperatively with staff and maintain relationships with special needs students.
• Proficient in record-keeping and data monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with special needs.
• Adapt teaching strategies to individual learner needs.
• Assist in preparing specialized teaching aids and materials.
• Reinforce learning activities using teacher plans and strategies.
• Support student personal hygiene, dressing, and eating routines as needed.
• Follow teacher guidance and report concerns to teacher/administration.
• Collaborate with therapists to implement individualized programs.
• Ensure student safety during classroom and field activities.
• Maintain confidentiality and share updates with the support team.
