Parkland School Division (PSD) is a large progressive school jurisdiction serving Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Fort Chipewyan and Parkland County. PSD supports the educational needs of over 12,000 students across 23 sites including outreach schools and alternative education programs. The Parkland School Division currently has a Temporary Part-time (for new employees) or Permanent Part-time (for existing permanent employees) EA Certified position (0.786 FTE) available at Copperhaven School in Spruce Grove, Alberta. The assignment is grade 3 classroom support, with primary focus on two students with a diagnosis of ASD. Responsibilities include regulation support, academic support, and expressive language support.
Student A requires close supervision, de-escalation, sensory breaks, and proximity during transitions. Staff must model sensory activities and facilitate breaks in the Sensory Room as outlined in the student plan. Daily sensory activity breaks (e.g., jumping, hopping, skipping, walking) are required.
Student B requires close supervision, handholding during academic tasks, engagement in active play and PE, and close outdoor supervision in all weather. Staff may need to assist with safety in the playground, transitions, and during field trips.
Existing permanent employees: If selected, you will maintain your permanent status and return to a similar position if the temporary assignment ends. New employees: Temporary status applies with limited leave entitlements; collective agreement provisions apply as described in Article 2.06 (Probationary Period, Seniority, Layoff and Recall, Sick Leave, Leave of Absence, Health Plan Benefits, Local Authorities Pension Plan).
EA Certified employees assist teachers with instructional and non-instructional tasks, work as part of the student support team, and must meet PSD mandatory educational requirements (Educational Assistant Certificate or equivalent).

a) Education: i) High School Diploma ii) Teacher Assistant Certificate / Educational Assistant Certificate iii) First Aid and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certificates are assets; coursework related to working with students with special needs is preferred.
b) Experience: Training and experience working with children with challenging behaviors; strong technology skills; ability to build relationships and work as part of a team. Equivalencies will be considered.
Good oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, sense of humor, good health and physical fitness, ability to take direction, flexibility, patience, sensitivity, tolerance, enthusiasm, creativity; ability to manage emotional and mental stress in a school setting.

Hours: 27.5 hours/week (Monday to Friday, 9:45 AM to 3:45 PM). Pay: EA Certified $24.10–$27.14/hr (Pay Group 3); EA Non-Certified $22.92–$25.73/hr. This position is part-time and includes a ten-month contract with summer breaks.
