The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Supervisor, Data and Applications, this role is responsible for providing first-line technical GIS support to internal staff, as well as deploying new hardware, including physically removing and installing computers at primary and remote sites (occasional weekend work may be required).

Recruiting for the Fall 2025/Winter 2026 term (September 2025 – April 2026).

Responsibilities

1. Act as the first point of contact for staff regarding GIS issues via phone and email.
2. Troubleshoot basic GIS problems, including map updates, remotely and in person.
3. Follow and update existing GIS process documentation; create new documentation collaboratively with IT staff.
4. Manage calls from staff, log issues, and escalate unresolved problems to the GIS team.

The Ideal Candidate

We seek an enthusiastic student enrolled in a post-secondary program related to Information Technology, Geography, GIS, Geomatics, or similar. The candidate should have 0-3 years of experience with GIS tools and ESRI software, including experience with spatial data editing and versioned editing (asset).

Proficiency in ArcMap, ArcGIS Server, FME, ArcSDE, Spatial Analyst, Model Builder, Geocortex, and Python is preferred. Familiarity with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic hardware (laptops, PCs, printers, iPhones, Windows systems) is also advantageous.

The candidate should demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, effective teamwork, decision-making abilities within routine procedures, and excellent communication skills.

Compensation

The position offers a pay rate of $20.62 to $25.77 per hour, based on a 35-hour work week.
