Job description

A day in the life:
The Transportation Planning department offers planning and engineering services for a full spectrum of transportation projects serving both public and private-sector clients. For the role of the Transportation Planning Student, WSP is seeking to hire a candidate in the engineering, planning, and/or design field to support with a range ofprojects including active transportation planning; pedestrian, cycling, urban street and trail design assignments; multimodal transportation master plans;traffic signal operation/coordination studies; and parking studies . We provide students in the engineering, planning, and design fields with an exciting opportunity to work for one of the leading consulting firms while gaining a wide range of experience in the transportation field.

This position has the opportunity to work with the Active Transportation and Complete Streets group within the Transportation Planning department.

The successful candidate would:

  • Participate in day-to-day project activities such as background research, CAD design, data analysis, and report writing;
  • Assist with the preparation of engineering and planning studies;
  • Prepare drawings, charts, maps, graphics, or other visualizations to communicate technical details and recommendations;
  • Coordinate with project team members;
  • Occasionally participate in site visits, project meetings/workshops, or consultation events; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • Excellent technical, analytical, writing, and presentation skills;
  • A strong interest in transportation planning and design, particularly in active transportation;
  • Strong GIS analysis and/or CAD design skills;
  • Effective time management skills as you will be working on various projects supporting different teams;
  • Creativity / Outside the box thinking;
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (e.g. Illustrator, InDesign) would be an asset;
  • Have shown leadership skills by participating in extra-curricular events and volunteer work;
  • Able to travel in and around the Greater Toronto Area or Ottawa for occasional site visits;
  • Knowledge in Synchro or other transportation modelling software would be an asset; and
  • Having a valid G/G2 driver’s license and access to a vehicle would be an asset.
