Job description

Our client is a well-established M&E Consultancy that also designs and builds throughout Canada. They are currently seeking a technically astute Electrical Estimator / Designer.

The client was founded over years ago, providing mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and communications design for a variety of commercial and institutional buildings, both new and renovated. Their main office is located in uptown Toronto, with associated offices in Vancouver, Kelowna, Victoria, Calgary, Edmonton, London, Ottawa, and Winnipeg.

The Toronto office is seeking an Engineer / Designer specializing in Electrical Systems, with the ability to produce drawings using Revit / CAD / MEP.

The Designer will work with the Project Manager and independently depending on the project scope. Candidates should be team players, highly motivated, with good communication skills. They will work under the supervision of a Principal or Project Manager.

Engineer / Designer Qualifications: Candidate(s) must:

1. Possess or have equivalent experience and abilities in electrical building services.
2. Demonstrate a strong desire for professional development and advancement.
3. Be able to work in complex environments often driven by project deadlines.
4. Be college graduates of an electrical building services program.
5. Have AutoCAD training from a recognized college, with exposure to electrical layouts and systems. Knowledge of AutoCAD MEP is preferred.
6. Be familiar with systems such as fire alarm, communication, and other specialized electrical systems.
7. The level of responsibility will depend on the candidate's experience.
8. Perform tasks assigned by Principal or Project Manager within specified timeframes.
9. Perform site surveys as required.
10. Complete CAD tasks within given hours, adhering to AutoCAD and AutoCAD MEP standards.
11. Check layouts and services for continuity and coordinate drawings with codes.
12. Supervise drawings between disciplines.
13. Prepare AutoCAD drawings from sketches, mark-ups, or design.
14. Verify CAD drawings against sketches for accuracy.
15. Develop lighting layouts and coordinate with other disciplines.
16. Develop power distribution layouts and sizing.
17. Design layouts of electrical/switch/transformer rooms.
18. Perform lighting calculations as needed.
19. Assist with any other tasks assigned by Principals or Project Managers to support the success of the firm.
