Overview of Position : Reporting to the Nurse Manager and working under the general direction of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.
Responsibilities include :
- Provide personal care to residents such as bathing, toileting, dressing, grooming, feeding, oral hygiene, and skin and nails care.
- Assist with transfers and mobilization of residents using body mechanics and mechanical aids like walkers, wheelchairs, and lifts following the established ADL Care Plan.
- Perform nursing procedures such as administering enemas, obtaining specimens, recording intake and output, instilling eye drops, and applying minor dressings.
- Record observations and report any changes or problems in residents’ condition, such as mobility, temperature, skin integrity, appetite, and behavior, to the designated Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Transport residents to and from dining areas, lounges, and activity programs.
- Assist residents with meals by serving, collecting trays, feeding, opening containers, and cutting food as needed. Monitor and record intake of nourishments and ensure safety during meals.
- Ensure residents' safety during all tasks and report any adverse events or near-misses immediately to the supervisor.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by changing and making beds, sanitizing basins, bedpans, and urinals, replenishing supplies, and cleaning service areas.
- Report malfunctioning equipment and safety hazards promptly.
- Chart relevant information such as weight and blood pressure, and attach necessary documents following review by the Registered Nurse.
- Participate in care planning, including establishing and maintaining current ADL Care Plans and Nursing Aide Flow Sheets.
- Attend staff development and in-service education programs as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned. Requirements include graduation from a recognized Health Care Aide program or equivalent education, training, and experience. Eligibility for registration with the BC Care Aide registry is also required.
- Abilities include effective communication, organizational skills, teamwork, and physical capability to perform duties.
