Overview

If you have outstanding skills, a strong work ethic, attention to safety, and exceptional customer service skills, we want to meet you! Reporting to the Manager of Public Works, you will perform a variety of labour tasks involving considerable physical effort in all weather conditions. Duties include construction and maintenance of roads, pavement, asphalt installation; water, sanitary, and storm sewer maintenance; pipe installation and repair; sign installation; cement work and concrete installation, including brick paver installation; operation of small equipment and hand tools; routine equipment maintenance; maintenance inspections; and truck driving. This position supports the solid waste division and may act as a relief driver for garbage, green waste, and recycling collection. Knowledge of MMCD standards is an asset.

Qualifications
  • Completion of Grade 12 with relevant experience, including operating small equipment used in public works construction and maintenance, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions related to the work.
  • Class 5 Driver’s license with Air Endorsement and a safe driving record.
  • Class 3 Driver's License or higher with Air Endorsement is an asset.
  • Additional public works training, experience with excavations, pipe laying, and working around underground utilities.
  • Assets include Intro to Public Works, Water Distribution Level I, Wastewater Collection Level I, and Occupational First Aid (OFA) Level 1 (minimum required).
Requirements
  • Ability to operate maintenance equipment and hand/power tools.
  • Ability to shovel, rake, and compact asphalt.
  • Ability to repair potholes with cold mix.
  • Skills in paving, cement finishing, brick laying, and concrete work.
  • Experience working around underground utilities.
  • Effective communication and listening skills.
  • Courteous and professional interaction with the public.
  • Teamwork and a safety-first attitude.
  • Knowledge of operating de-watering pumps is preferred.
  • Maintain a clean-shaven face where respiratory protection is used, in accordance with safety regulations.
