Job summary

WSP Canada is seeking a Junior Cost Controller to join the Project Services - Project Cost Control team in Calgary. You will help project teams manage cost performance and guide decisions across the project lifecycle, collaborating with Managers, Planners, Finance partners, and engineers.

You will develop skills in budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and performance reporting while supporting cost control tools and Power BI integration across infrastructure, mining, industrial, and energy

Qualifications

  • Diploma, bachelor's degree, or equivalent education in engineering, project management, finance, business administration, construction management, or a related discipline.
  • Foundational experience in project controls, cost control, project administration, finance, construction, engineering consulting, or comparable project-based work.
  • Working knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, cost baselines, variance analysis, and project performance reporting across the project lifecycle.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for data analysis, reconciliation, tracking, and reporting; experience with Power BI is an asset.
  • Familiarity with InEight, Oracle, or comparable project controls systems, along with an understanding of Earned Value Management concepts, is an asset.
  • Ability to validate financial data, maintain accurate and traceable records, manage reporting deadlines, and communicate cost insights with multidisciplinary stakeholders; English-French bilingualism is an asset where project or client needs require it.

  • Strengthen project governance by maintaining cost baselines, approved budget changes, documentation, and traceable records across project controls systems.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Planners, Finance partners, Engineers, and technical teams to connect cost control, scheduling, and performance reporting.
  • Produce Excel-based tracking tools and support Power BI reporting that improve the clarity, timeliness, and consistency of project information.
  • Drive continuous improvement by applying project controls procedures, contributing to cost reviews, and developing your capability through mentorship and multidisciplinary project exposure.

As a Junior Cost Controller with our Project Services - Project Cost Control team, you will help project teams understand cost performance and make informed decisions throughout the project lifecycle. Working with Project Managers, Cost Controllers, Planners, Finance partners, and technical teams, you will support budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, change control, and performance reporting across infrastructure, mining, industrial, and energy projects while building a strong foundation in project controls.

Compensation

  • AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $66,700 - $88,400

  • MB & ON: $60,900 - $83,800

  • NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $60,300 - $80,000
