Job summary

ABC Head Start Society seeks an Early Learning Teacher (Explorer) to lead play-based, developmentally appropriate lessons for 3–5 year olds in an inclusive classroom. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and families to support children’s growth and milestone progress, guided by Alberta’s framework.

The role emphasizes trauma-informed, inclusive practices, strong communication, and coordination with staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a specialization in Early Childhood Education or related field.
• Alberta Education Teaching Certificate in good standing.
• Experience with children with complex needs, behavioral challenges, or developmental delays.
• Willing participant in annual Safe Management training (employer provided).
• Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and inclusive teaching strategies.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
• Clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector within 60 days of hire.
• Valid Standard First Aid/CPR certification or completion within 30 days of hire.
• Legally authorized to work in Canada.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

• Lead engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons and activities aligned with Alberta’s Early Learning and Child Care Framework.
• Use creative, play-based learning techniques to support children’s emotional, social, cognitive, and physical growth.
• Provide support to children with daily care needs, including assistance with diapering, toileting, and hygiene routines.
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team—such as Speech-Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, and Behavioral Consultant to implement tailored strategies that meet each child’s unique needs.
• Build strong, supportive relationships with families to ensure they feel empowered and connected to their child’s learning journey.
• Create a classroom environment that celebrates diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
• Assess developmental progress, adapt learning plans, and continuously monitor outcomes to help each child thrive.

About You

You’re an experienced educator with a passion for creating inclusive, nurturing learning environments where children of all abilities and backgrounds can thrive. Working with Us

This is temporary full-time 18 month position with an immediate start date working 40 hours per week.

Compensation starts at $33.42/hour, with opportunities for growth based on experience and qualifications.

Please note: Position may be utilized to support other classrooms/sites for first few months of contract.
