Job summary

ABC Head Start Society is hiring a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant to support an interdisciplinary team serving toddlers and preschoolers with speech and language needs. You will help create inclusive learning environments and promote resilience, growth, and success.

The role emphasizes collaboration with families, development of individualized goals, and the development of classroom materials. Compensation starts at $25.35/hour and a full-time schedule is provided.

Qualifications

• Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant or related rehabilitation diploma.
• Minimum 1 year experience with toddlers and preschool children, including those with special needs.
• Knowledge of preschool language delays and intervention strategies.
• Knowledge of child development and how to operationalize treatment interventions.
• Strong clinical judgement, problem solving and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with SLP, classroom team, families/caregivers and other team members to determine speech-language needs.
• Assist in setting IPP goals and accommodations for success.
• Develop differentiated instruction strategies for speech-language development.
• Discuss progress with interdisciplinary team and families.
• Keep up to date on best practice and professional standards.
• Regularly meet with the SLP for guidance on duties and scope of practice.
• Provide program preparation, materials development, staff guidance and intake assessment support.

The Speech Language Pathologist Assistant role is part of an interdisciplinary team responsible for supporting the provision of service for children requiring development in the areas including but not limited to: Speech and language delays/disorders, communication and fluency disorders, voice and resonance disorders, swallowing and feeding disorders, cognitive-communication disorders and pre-literacy and literacy skills. What You’ll Do

Half of weekly hours spent in the classroom:

• Collaborate with the Speech Language Pathologist, classroom team, families/caregivers and other interdisciplinary team members to determine speech-language needs of identified children
• In collaboration, recommend goals for the IPP, suggesting specific accommodations and interventions required for success
• Aid in the development of differentiated instruction strategies, including activities and strategies to support speech-language development
• Discuss, in consultation with interdisciplinary team and family/caregivers, student skills development, progress, observations and updates
• Keep up to date on best practice and current professional practice
• Regularly meet with and receive feedback from Speech Language Pathologist regarding assigned duties and scope of practice

Half of weekly hours providing support to Speech Language Pathologist lead & entire Speech team:

• Program preparation
• Development of materials for classroom teams
• Provide staff guidance and/or training
• Intake assessment support to SLPs

About You

Must-Haves:

• Speech Language Pathologist Assistant/Rehabilitation Diploma or related training
• Minimum 1 year experience working with toddlers, and preschool aged children, including working with children with special needs
• Knowledge and working experience of preschool language delays and disorders and intervention strategies
• Knowledge of child development and skills in operationalizing treatment interventions including behavior management techniques
• Sound clinical judgement, problem solving and decision-making skills in combination with sound analytical abilities are essential

Nice-to-Haves:

• Experience in inclusive, multicultural environments.
• A love of play-based learning (bonus if you're great at hide-and-seek!).

Working with Us

Compensation starts at $25.35/hour, with increases based on experience and qualifications.

Regular full-time position working 7.5 hours Monday thru Friday
