About this Opportunity:

University of Victoria Child Care is seeking an outstanding, experienced Early Childhood Educator (ECE) to join our team in a full-time (35 hours per week), temporary ECE Supervisor position for one of our 30 months to school aged (3 – 5 year olds) full-day child care programs.

Job Summary:

The Early Childhood Educator Supervisor (ECE Supervisor) leads a child care team providing early learning and care to children who are aged 30 months to pre-Kindergarten (three to five year olds). The ECE Supervisor works in ratio with the children and assumes overall responsibility for the child care program’s operation, and pedagogy ensuring that the program aligns with the BC Early Learning Framework (BC Government, 2019); the ECEBC Code of Ethics; BC Community Care and Assisted Living Act; and Child Care Licensing Regulations.

Job Requirements:

Experience:
Minimum of two years’ experience working as a certified Early Childhood Educator in a leadership position, with demonstrated experience implementing the BC Early Learning Framework (BC Government, 2019).

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrated leadership skills in building and maintaining collaborative relationships within a team environment and with other professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to set goals and objectives and implement plans within set timelines.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated evidence of ongoing professional commitment and development, and an attitude that supports ongoing learning and self-reflection skills.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and written communication skills with children, families, team members and other professionals.
  • Ability to problem solve by using judgement, independent thinking and/or analysis.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skills implementing the BC Community Care and Assisted Living Act and BC Child Care Licensing Regulations into practice.
  • Demonstrated ability and strong interest integrating the BC Early Learning Framework (BC Government, 2019) in a child care program including program planning, inquiry work and creating pedagogical narrations.
  • Strong guidance skills for working with children in a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Commitment to the ECEBC Code of Ethics, including confidentiality and privacy of information.
  • Commitment to valuing the principles of truth and reconciliation, equity and diversity and contributing to an inclusive and respectful environment.
  • Ability to handle emergencies skillfully and calmly and in compliance with BC Child Care Regulations, as well as UVic’s Policies and UVic Child Care policies.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, to multi-task, and attend to children’s needs while keeping awareness of the whole group.
  • Ability to meet physical demands for the position: lifting with weight (up to 15 kg), crouching, squatting, bending, standing for long periods of time, supervising outdoor play, walking, and sitting on floor and spending several hours a day outdoors year-round.
  • Flexibility to work a range of shifts within UVic Child Care operating hours, according to operational demands.
  • Proficiency with computer applications (i.e., MS-Outlook, MS Word, MS-Teams, Zoom).

Specialized Knowledge/Education:

  • Completion of an Early Childhood Education certificate or diploma program.
  • Must hold a valid Early Childhood Educator Certificate issued by the BC Early Childhood Educator Registry.
  • Strong knowledge of the BC Early Learning Framework (BC Government, 2019) and ability to implement into practice.
  • Strong knowledge of the BC Community Care and Assisted Living Act and current BC Child Care Licensing Regulations.
  • Must hold a valid Emergency Childcare with CPR-B (or C) First Aid certificate.
  • In accordance with the BC Criminal Records Review Act, must have the ability to provide a clear criminal record check.
  • Documentation of compliance in the immunization program per Ministry of Health guidelines (childhood immunizations).
