Job summary

Fueling Brains Academy is seeking an Early Childhood Educator (ECE) to create a nurturing and educational environment for children. The ECE will play a vital role in establishing the center's culture, implementing innovative teaching practices, and fostering child development through a unique curriculum. Ideal candidates will have a diploma in ECE, experience with young children, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Experience with children aged 3-5 years, especially in start-up environments.
  • Knowledge of BC Early Learning Framework and ECEBC Code of Ethics.
  • First Aid and CPR certification required.

Overview

An Early Childhood Educator (ECE) is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for children in a childcare setting. As this is for a new childcare facility, ECEs will play a key role in establishing the center's culture and implementing Fueling Brains practices.

Our classrooms are inspired by the Fueling Brains philosophy with a focus on development of executive functions. These innovative spaces foster creativity, imagination, social skills, and children's interests, shaping the curriculum through our unique Left Brain, Right Brain, and Movement approach. The ECE will create a learning environment that inspires children to think outside the box and explore their senses.

Start Date : As soon as possible – May 2025

Salary : $26–$28 per hour

Responsibilities
  1. Program Development & Implementation
    • Plan and carry out developmentally appropriate activities tailored to children's needs, fostering growth in executive functions through our Left Brain (Montessori-inspired) and Right Brain (Reggio Emilia-inspired) curriculum.
    • Optimize classroom environments to support exploration and engagement.
    • Design responsive, curiosity-driven spaces that evolve through observation and reflection.
    • Monitor and document children's progress to inform lesson planning.
  2. Child Supervision & Safety
    • Ensure a safe, secure, and healthy environment, adhering to safety standards.
    • Supervise children indoors and outdoors, ensuring their well-being.
  3. Positive Child Development
    • Support cognitive flexibility, working memory, and inhibitory control.
    • Encourage positive behavior and manage challenges effectively.
  4. Parent Communication & Involvement
    • Build positive relationships with families through open communication.
    • Participate in meetings and family engagement activities.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to create a positive work environment.
  5. Facility Start-up
    • Assist in setting up the classroom and learning environments.
    • Develop initial policies and routines, contributing to the center's culture.
Preferred Skills And Qualifications
  • Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE) and current ECE Certificate from BC Ministry of Children and Family Development.
  • Experience working with children aged 3-5 years, including setting up new facilities or start-up environments (preferred).
  • Knowledge of BC Early Learning Framework, ECEBC Code of Ethics, neuroscience practices, and experience with Montessori and Reggio Emilia approaches.
  • Strong knowledge of child development, inclusive practices, and cultural responsiveness.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • First Aid and CPR certification (required).
  • Experience with digital platforms for attendance, planning, or communication is an asset.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, support transitions, and engage in active play.
  • Physical ability to participate in active outdoor activities and lift up to 40 lbs.

  • Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search.
  • Up-to-date immunizations as per BC childcare regulations.
