Position: Trained Teacher (Early Childhood Educator)

Type: Temporary Full Time

Hours of Work: 7 Hours/Day

Start Date/Term: June 30, 2025 - August 29, 2025

Reports To: Site Supervisor, St. Jane Child Care Centre

Position Summary

Develops and leads the implementation of high-quality, developmentally appropriate programs for children to support their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth. Facilitates inclusion and integration of children with special needs. Supports a team environment in the classroom and the Centre. This position is based at St. Jane Child Care Centre, 2745 Jane Street, Toronto, ON M3L 2E8.

Responsibilities
  1. Plan and supervise a safe environment, ensuring children’s safety and well-being at all times, maintaining equipment and environment free of hazards.
  2. Design, execute, and evaluate daily programming using approved curricula to promote emotional, cognitive, and physical development. Encourage active, inclusive learning and facilitate spontaneous experiences.
  3. Comply with all relevant legislation and guidelines, including the Child Care Early Years Act and Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  4. Observe and assess children’s strengths, challenges, and interests; adapt programming accordingly. Collaborate with colleagues as needed.
  5. Use positive interactions, effective communication, promote independence, and model respect and kindness.
  6. Communicate with parents about their child's progress, skills, and activities.
  7. Coordinate with external agencies to support children’s development.
  8. Assist with managing medication schedules and allergies.
  9. Handle transportation duties if required.
  10. Prepare and serve meals, maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, and perform housekeeping duties.
  11. Supervise student teachers and assist with evaluations.
Qualifications
  1. ECE degree/diploma or equivalent with experience working with children, including those with special needs.
  2. Ability to deliver inclusive programming for children with special needs.
  3. Member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
  4. Knowledge of ELECT, High Scope curriculum, and inclusive program planning.
  5. Excellent communication and listening skills.
  6. Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office, Internet, and email.
  7. Ability to build effective partnerships with diverse families, colleagues, and service providers.
  8. Acceptable Vulnerable Police Record Check.
  9. Current Standard First Aid certification, medical, and immunization records.
Salary & Benefits

Starting at $28.34/hour, with an annual salary range of $51,574 to $56,099, plus a comprehensive benefits package, paid time off (20 vacation days & 3 float days, prorated).

Additional Information

This position is within the CUPE Local 2563 bargaining unit.
