Job title: Early Childhood Educator

Department: Education – Child & Family Learning Center

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Children & Family Learning Center Supervisor, the Early Childhood Educator is responsible for the daily care of registered children and the planning and implementation of age-appropriate programs to support their cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development. All duties will align with the Child Care and Early Years Act and the program philosophy.

Skills & Qualifications:

Candidates will be screened based on the following criteria. It is the responsibility of the candidate to demonstrate that she/he meets these requirements:

  • A Secondary School Diploma (Grade 12)
  • Post-Secondary Diploma in Early Childhood Education
  • Registered Member of the College of Early Childhood Educators
  • Clear Criminal Reference Check upon hire
  • Current First Aid & CPR certification
  • Experience working with First Nation children and families
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Promote the philosophy and mandate of the Biigtigong Children and Family Learning Center
  • Maintain communication and foster relationships with community organizations, children, parents, and elders
  • Ensure Band Members are well-informed about the Learning Center through promotional activities and encourage feedback
  • Pursue ongoing professional development through relevant training, workshops, and seminars
  • Collaborate with the supervisor and staff to provide developmentally appropriate programs that support children's growth in various domains
  • Utilize diverse teaching techniques such as modeling, observing, questioning, and demonstrating
  • Plan and implement daily activities balancing active/quiet, indoor/outdoor, and individual/group experiences, including routines and transitions
  • Prepare activities, crafts, and circle time sessions
  • Foster positive social interactions, sharing, cooperation, respect, and self-sufficiency
  • Design activities that promote problem-solving skills
  • Develop and execute curriculum in accordance with program guidelines
  • Incorporate Nishnaabeg traditions, language, culture, and worldview into daily activities and care
  • Perform additional duties as required

Note: Flexibility is required as the role may involve placement at both the Children and Family Learning Center and the Elementary School as needed.
