Job description

Position Title : Manager, Maintenance - Housing

Reports to : Director, Infrastructure & Facilities

Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Manager to oversee housing maintenance services within our First Nations community. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring homes are safe, well-maintained, and meet BC Building Code standards. They must hold a BC Building Inspector License and will be responsible for conducting home inspections, monitoring contractor repairs, and performing final inspections.

Additionally, this role will involve training community members in the construction of mini homes, contributing to skills development and self-sufficiency within the community. A Red Seal in Carpentry is preferred but not required. Preference will be given to First Nations members.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage all housing maintenance and repair activities.
  • Conduct housing inspections to ensure compliance with BC Building Code and safety standards.
  • Monitor contractors to ensure proper completion of repairs and renovations.
  • Perform final inspections on homes before occupancy or after major repairs.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance plans.
  • Train and mentor community members in mini home construction and general carpentry.
  • Supervise and coordinate maintenance staff, contractors, and vendors.
  • Ensure all work meets safety regulations, building codes, and community policies.
  • Assess and prioritize maintenance requests from residents.
  • Maintain an inventory of tools, supplies, and equipment.
  • Prepare reports on maintenance activities, budgets, and housing conditions.
  • Provide recommendations for housing improvements and renovations.
  • Work closely with community leadership, housing committees, and funding agencies.

Skills & Qualifications

  • BC Building Inspector License (Required).
  • Experience in housing maintenance, construction, or facility management.
  • Ability to train and mentor community members in construction skills, including mini home building.
  • Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general repairs.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse teams and community members.
  • Understanding of First Nations housing needs and cultural considerations.
  • Proficiency in budgeting and project planning.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Red Seal Certification in Carpentry (Preferred but not required).
  • Experience working with Indigenous housing programs or government agencies.

Salary Range : $40.14 / hr - $51.95 / hr
