Reports to the Construction Director and will be responsible for providing oversight for all contract management activities related to civil activities. The position requires the Contract Manager to report to senior leadership on claims (upstream and downstream), subcontract management, reporting, and monitoring changes against budgets.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement contract management strategies to oversee the civil portion of the construction contract (upstream and downstream) and interface obligations of Civil JV with systems and operation and maintenance partners.
- Liaise closely with in-house legal counsel and provide guidance on contractual matters to ensure scope of work aligns with contractual obligations.
- Lead the design and implementation of effective change management processes and contract close-out plans to minimize time to achieve Substantial Completion.
- Guide, mentor, and supervise the Civil JV’s Contract Management team.
- Establish and implement processes for early notification of claims and back charges.
- Support technical assessment of claims and provide data to support and defend the Joint Venture's position.
- Develop and implement financial control, reporting routines, and audit processes for high-value/high-risk contracts.
- Ensure compliance with project delivery policies, legal and regulatory requirements, insurance, finance, tax, and health and safety standards.
- Manage interfaces and ensure effective communication across functional areas, including systems partners, operations, maintenance, procurement, and subcontract execution.
- Provide technical expertise in negotiating major/complex subcontracts.
- Ensure Civil JV contractors deliver and execute according to contractual obligations and scope of work.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Degree or equivalent in Business, Construction Management, or Business Law.
- Over ten (10) years of experience in contract management, subcontract administration, and procurement supporting construction projects, with at least five (5) years of relevant work experience.
- Experience in developing and negotiating contract terms for construction and professional services on Lump Sum, Unit Price, and cost-reimbursable basis.
- Strong understanding of contracting principles, legal terms, and contract law.
- Experience with various compensation structures including reimbursable costs, lump sum, and unit price.
- Proficiency with Contract Management software.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to develop, mentor, and coach team members.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with attention to detail and self-motivation.
- Strong negotiation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes, or Outlook.
