UpTown! at SECPA is a dance studio located in Fort McMurray, Alberta, at the Suncor Energy Centre for the Performing Arts. We are a rapidly growing studio offering affordable dance classes for all ages from 3 to adult. Classes are held in two studios equipped with sprung floors, mirrors, ballet barres, and a sound system with access to a 325-seat theatre.

Job Description

Reporting to the UpTown Manager, the successful candidate will represent UpTown! at SECPA professionally in classes and at events such as conventions, competitions, and showcases. We are seeking qualified instructors experienced in teaching Hip Hop, Creative Movement, KinderCombo, Jr. Jazz, and Tap.

Qualifications

• Accredited Dance Teaching Certification (e.g., R.A.D., S.R.B., C.D.T.A., I.S.T.D.) or equivalent
• Program and/or practical teaching experience
• Degree or diploma in post-secondary dance (asset)
• Proficient in creating and following lesson plans
• Ability to coach and mentor dance assistants
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong customer service skills
• Experience as a choreographer or competition judge (asset)

Responsibilities

• Create lesson plans tailored to different ages and abilities
• Encourage students to improve their skills
• Select music for classes and year-end shows
• Prepare choreography for performances
• Promote anti-bullying policies
• Foster a healthy and positive classroom environment
• Collaborate with team members on student and studio events
• Provide annual progress reports
• Provide statistical data as required
