Position Overview

Under the general direction of the Team Manager, as part of the multidisciplinary team, the Nurse Practitioner (NP):

  1. Applies advanced nursing and medical theory to the provision of clinical care, autonomously ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing pharmacologic agents, and performing minor invasive procedures.
  2. Contributes to knowledge development and the advancement of the nursing profession through current and relevant nursing and medical theory.
  3. Integrates medical and advanced nursing knowledge into clinical practice.
  4. Practices autonomously in health promotion and illness prevention, and demonstrates competence in planning, implementing, and evaluating complex care, including teaching others.
  5. Facilitates problem-solving among staff, between staff and patients/residents/clients, and with physicians and the multidisciplinary team.
  6. Utilizes skills in consultation, collaboration, and systems management to provide effective care.
Experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years recent clinical nursing experience, preferably in primary care.
  • Experience with clients with mental health and/or addictions is an asset.
  • Experience linking between programs/organizations across sectors is an asset.
  • Two years of practice in extended community health and primary care practice is an asset.
  • Demonstrated competence in delivering primary care services to diverse client groups.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Masters of Nursing, Nurse Practitioner Stream, or equivalent approved by the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) is required.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Authorized to provide extended practice nursing care if competent and within the scope as endorsed by CRNM.
  • Active participation in professional associations (e.g., ARNM) is preferred.
  • Must maintain active registration on the RN Extended Practice Register of the CRNM.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Competency in an Indigenous language and knowledge of Indigenous customs and traditions are assets.
  • Proficiency with computers and healthcare technology systems.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Leadership skills and adaptability to changing environments.
  • Ability to function effectively under stress and in demanding situations.
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, interpersonal, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to facilitate groups, negotiate, and resolve conflicts.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment.
